| sigh! now, i'm very excited and happy for elijah but dear god almighty....he cannot be left for long enough to blink without trying to damage himself/others/things my main problem at the moment (apart from having to hold him in one arm to go to the toilet, and not having had a shower for 2 days!) is nappy changing times.......wtf???!! he has had 3 leaks this week cos he will not let you put a nappy on, or clean him, or take a nappy off...he pee'd up the chest of drawers today because he pulled up to standing in the second it took me to reach up for a nappy (im changing him on the floor, but can't keep anything except toys there cos he eats them), he also got his hands AND feet in poo earlier.... am i missing some amazing trick? i literally have to hold him down to get a nappy/clean clothes on (i accidentally Heimliched him yesterday and he threw up so we had to start again ahem) maybe i will adjust and get used to it!!! he is currently chewing his toybox and simultaniously tugging my trouser legs...he is meant to be asleep help help tell me reassuring lies! |

| he became a bit of a danger due to sudden and very forceful rolling so i'm too scared to do it anywhere off the ground now! he nearly propelled himself off the bed last week.......he is not 'helping' me to tidy all those pesky books off the bookshelf....unruly! |

| Um I disagree with amanda, imo it gets worse . Once they over one and walking and sudddenly realise they can reach/pull/grab/destroy and you react it becomes a game of chase around the house and a constant battle of no's and removing them from dangerous things. Go into toddler talk if you brave enough and have a nosey at what we put up with muhahaha ! The only plus is toddlers can exhaust themselves from giving us the run around all day so generally take a good long nap and sleep better at night. Every stage has its ups and downs! |

| ! you were meant to lie i thought this room was relatively safe but apparently it's actually an obstacle course of traps and dangers all designed specifically to mangle my baby! |

| erm nope it gets worse.
I always give rowan a quick drink or book to distract him with.
you'll learn as well to have everything you need at hand and open and ready to go.
one way is. put the clean nappy under the dirty one. lift and whip that one off, clean the bum then do the clean one up. |

| Amelia is and always has been a nightmare to change on the floor, she's much easier on a changer. You can body block them from rolling off and they soon learn that it's safest not to. Amelia calmed down a bit if she was given a nappy or wipe to hold too. Good luck hun. I have to say that Amelia is a ton easier now than ever before xx |

| Mari it totally gets easier! Today, Milo brought me breakfast in bed, gave me a foot rub while I did my work emails, changed all his own nappies, ran me a bath and read me a story as he fell asleep. *snaps out of fantasy land* Yeah, good luck with that! From about that age, I tried all the "give him a toy/book/distract him" tricks, nothing worked! (Sorry guys ) as nothing was more fascinating than sticking his hands in his own poop then crawling/running away laughing. BUT!! I did find a great way to do it - now I stick him in the bath, standing up, take off his nappy, wipe him clean then wash and rinse his bum off with the shower. It's a bit of a palaver as it involves taking everything off and putting it all back on after the shower but he's confined, he's excited by the shower and he can't get poop all over my living room! And, although chasing after them is exhausting and 90% of everything you say will involve "no/stop/dangerous/ouch!" it just gets more and more fun, you can do more together, and loads of things get easier, like feeding, napping, sleeping (even Milo is sleeping through the night now!!) Milo sat in his toy box for 5 minutes having a conversation with a scrap of paper. That alone is worth all the nappy changes! |
