is it just me or is this a bit weird?

http://www.tiddlywinksgym.com/

i thought it was quite interesting at first, but i was looking in the shop (for the bloody rody) and they had treadmills and things for little children....now i know that lots of the things in that store would be really excellent for a child with mobility problems or certain disabilities...but the exercise bikes and weight bench and stuff are a bit strange no?

Shocked Shocked I think theres something quite alarming about that, whats wrong with kids running around and playing for exercise.

I dont see the problem... its not like you can MAKE a child exercise, they will do it for fun, so will get on a rowing machine and do a few pulls, get bored move to the next thing to try.

Its not much different from taking them to dance lessons, or softplay - except different things for them play on

I just dont see why you would want to buy something like that for your child rather than take them out to the park etc...

You don't buy it for at home - its a 'class' to go to like a dancing/swimming class at the leisure centre , here are the full details

http://www.tiddlywinksgym.com/page/childrens-fun-fit-activity-gym-club

No one says you don't take them to the park too... this is something different for them to do

Why is it any different to taking them to the softplay?!

(edit, I think Mari linked to the wrong page?! did you mean to link to the page where you can buy the stuff.. http://www.tiddlywinksgym.com/products_view_all.php , rather than the one that says about the classes?)

My initial feeling is OMG! But thinking about it I suppose it's just another game to them so no problem really. I don't agree with the at home ones though because they could be open to abuse. I can justimagine some of the parents on baby beauty queens having home gyms set up, it freaks me out!

Yes I was looking at the stuff you can buy, as Olliesmammy says I just think in some cases parents could possibly abuse equipment like that.

I suppose so, there will always be freaky parents who abuse things but that surely shouldn't mean its a bad idea in general?

Izzy has a trike, a form of exercise, and if I were a freaky fitness parent I'd 'make' her pedal it round the front room all day. Loads of toddlers and kids have trampolines! How are these different.. just because the other items resemble what we use in a gym doesn't mean they would be abused.

Surely no one can think that things like this shouldn't be available for kids to play on at home just cos some people 'might' abuse it?!

I was speaking to a girl a few months back who took her little one to somewhere like this. It was really great cos there was things for the mums to do too. It made time for her to do exercise and her son had loads of fun too so it was win win really Smile

Caelyn has been to baby gym ad really enjoyed it. She also has a trampoline at home she likes to play on and if she showed aptitude in gymnastics and wanted to pursue it herself i wud maybe consider some of the toys for her to play with like the twister etc though i probs wudnt buy it for any other reason. Cant see why id ever go out for a weight bench etc but at the end of the day its fairly harmless and teaches them exercise habits. Id rather buy her something she can be active on than technology tbh. Ppl will always abuse things it doesnt mea it shudnt be sold though. But i do agree generally a football is much cheaper and more interactive for parents lol

hmmm that kind of makes me think of my absolute pet hate - stupid computer games that emulate things that you can do outdoors....which is worse, real exercise/games or ones that you do while staring at a screen? stupid isolationist society...
haha i hijacked my own post Smile

Tbh, I can't see the harm - obviously I wouldn't go out and buy them for his 'weights room!' but When Oliver had a go on them he loved it Very Happy
