| I've decided I want to do race for life this year! Never done anything like it and my aunt and cousin are doing it with me. They reckon I should do 10k I'm scared lol I'm really quite excited! Need to get training, 10mins on the treadmill nearly killed me the other day lol.
Is anyone or has anyone else done it? Got any tips on training? x |

| i did the 5km one - did a bit of training (not much at all really ) just a bit of run/walking and could run about 2km, have a walk then run the next 2km - once the day came though the atmosphere was so good and everyone was of such mixed abilities it didn't matter, and i actually managed to run the whole thing. hm maybe that is something to aim for again this year (although it will be the first time i haven't had my arm twisted into it by working at tesco!) |

| I did it in 2006 and 2008. The first time I did it with a couple of friends from work and we trained every week by running round the square near work. The second time I was super fit from doing martial arts and didn't train at all.
Just doing a bit of running a couple of times a week and building it up over time so you do more running and less walking will make it easier on the day. On the day though the atmosphere will spur you on and you will probably run further than you thought was possible.
where are you doing it? |

| I'm doing it at fairlands lakes in Stevenage Gill! I've been looking online for training help and they all say the same as you just did. Aparently in 8 weeks I should be able to run for 30 mins continously! I guess only time will tell x |

| Iv done it for last 5 years. did it when I was preg with lillie and didnt realise, trained my ass off, lost loads of weight was great ran the whole way!! and then spewed all over finishing line with the local paper takin pics and every watching!!!! soo thats my tip dont do that! haha the following year I did it with Lillie in baby carrier another tip dont do that, one hell of a walk gets heavy, had a bad back for weeks after! lol didnt do it last year as was preg with Hollie, thinking of doing it this year but sooo unfit no time to train. but so chilled soo lovely no ones like racing (ok get the 1 or 2 in front with sweat bands lol) but when I ran I was having chats with people, everyones so friendly. BUT it is sooo upsetting!! reading eveyones backs with their stories really upsetting, but so nice when I walked it every chats with everyone on way round. aww right.. youve made me decide I need to do it this year again! thanks ladies!! xx |
