| Thought I'd start a Student Mummy Group thread ..I don't start til Wednesday, but Vickie starts tomorrow....so she can let us know how it goes! I'll start! I am going back to college to do A level Photography, Graphic Design & Geography, by the time tutorial is added its 14 hours a week, I worked part time doing 19 hours so childcare will remain the same as in Izzy will go to my MILs and a day in nursery. I have an interview on Tuesday for a cleaning job which I can do evenings and weekends too (although would rather do in day while Izzy with MIL) , between 10-20 hours a week, depending which contracts I take on (if I get it, but I think I will cos we have exchanged a few emails and he asked me to bring 2 photos for my ID lol) I don't get my timetable til Wednesday though, so don't know what they will be able to offer me. Have already spent LOADS, £53 on pens, paper files etc £63 on books |

| Hey!
Well I start access to health and social science course tomorrow also, with a view to apply to my local uni next year to do midwifery.
I'll be studying English, maths and IT as my core subjects and my specialist subjects are human biology, chemisty for life, health psychology and maths for scientists. I'm in college 16 hours min a week but don't find out my finalised time table till tomorrow. As the course is full time and quite demanding I won't be working while I study this year, aparently I'm expected to do 16 hours study out of college also!
Child care for now I'm relying on family until I know where I stand with my time table. I'm hoping to have Charlie in a nursery for one of the days as I think it'll be good for him!
As for books I've not brought any yet I've not been given our reading lists but I'm sure I'll have to spend a small fortune! Lol Me and tommy spend what felt like a whole day in staples choosing stationary tho!
Lisa are the a levels over two years?
Good luck tomorrow Vicki!! |

| Yup the diploma is VERY intense - I started it last year while I was still working 19 hours a week and with Izzy here too - it was impossible!
I'm doing both years yes, my college (not sure if all do this now) do all courses as AS for the first year so you have a qualification after the first year, then carry on as usual to complete the full A level
When I did levels after school it wasn't like that - you had to purposely chose AS to get a qualification after 1 year, if you picked A level and didn't finish the 2nd year then you got nothing! |

| I'm pretty sure that's the norm now, when I was in 6th form at school my year group was the ones who tested that new system out. I have an As in maths, economics and an a-level in IT and also business. I also have a foundation degree in business. Unfortunatly even with all those qualifications I still can't be a midwife! I've got no social sciences. That's why I've ended up enrolling on this course!
I don't know about you guys but at 16-17-18 I thought I might like one thing as a career but I was very wrong! I'll be 27 in two weeks and it's taken me' that long to figure out what I actually want to do!
Anyway charlies had me' up unusually early today! He must have known I didn't want to be tired lol! Little money! |

I know of people who have gone on to do MW at Uni with non social science quals Well at 17/18 I had NO idea what I wanted to do, my A level choice was based on NOTHING! I started work at 19 and have been Accounts Junior, Payroll Manager, PA, More Accounts, More Accounts, Trainer for a Software House, and Service Desk engineer (IT) ...so varied lol, but mainly IT last few years, and I just know I don't want to do that forever. That's why I have decided now before it gets too late! |

| Yeh I spoke to the uni and as there is such a high demand for the places they will always take the better candidate with the right education, they can afford to be picky. That's another reason I'm hoping to do the voulenteering at my local hospital, it'll give me' an edge I hope!
Had my first biology lesson! I dissected an onion and analysed a swab from my mouth lol I actually really enjoyed the class, met a couple of nice people which was good! That's it for today, got chemistry and English tomorrow.
I end up with 3 full days and 1 half day so not too bad really!
So day one down and all is good lol! |

| You dissected an onion, pmsl was it cooking today then?! heheh I'd have been rubbish at that experiment cos I cant see when I'm chopping onions up Yes the volunteering will definitely help, my local maternity ward don't let people do it though, even the main hozzy only let people volunteer in the charity shop Glad you enjoyed it, and 3.5 days is good, I hope mine work out that good, i really do not want a bitty week! |

| Again had a brilliant day today! I had Chemistry this morning, played with bunsen burners, and made chemical reactions from some elements! Tell ya what, i'm learning things from gcse for the first few weeks as they try to get everyone to the same standard, its amazing that i am actually remembering things! Having said that i feel so much better to actually want to learn, sorry if that sounds stupid but at school i just didn't care really, was too young to really know what i wanted to do with life and saw school as a social event really! I'm so excited when i get up in the mornings, its really doing wonders for my self asteem and confidence! Lisa i really hope tomorrow goes well! i'm excited for you lol |

| Hey! How did you get on Lisa? Hope you had a good first day! only had maths today, which was fine as its only gcse so its pretty basic stuff. Although saying that its amazing what you forget after 10 years out of 'school' i actually struggled to remember how to do long multiplication and long division lol. Got it figured out now but wow talk about confused! Next week i've got all lessons that are timetabled so it'll be a real busy one! i actually have 4 full days. but i get thursdays off so thats good! I get a layin tomorrow! Charlie has been brilliant with his aunties, I dont have the money to put him into professional childcare unfortunatly, he is with his aunty. I wondered how he'd be as he's never been looked after by anyone else really. he's loved all the attension! and every time i pick him up i get a big smile and big cuddle so all is well! Vicki, i think i could do with a body massage for 3 hours! think you could help out lol! sunshinedust- what is the degree you will be returning to? |

| Well last week was great, although did naff all work cos there was so much stuff to sort out like timetables, things we need to buy, swapping lectures!
Did my first assignment for photography today - I was waiting til the last minute to hand it in cos I kept thinking I had done it wrong - it said to use pictures relevant to the subject (photograms), but I could see loads of other people had used photos not relevant (just happened to be by the same artist, but were paintings, photographs etc) so I am thinking they were wrong not me lol
I had a stupidly long lunch today from 12.45 til 3.30, and tomorrow I dont start til 1.15...but thats because some of us had to get a new tutor assigned and still don't know who we are assigned to so cant go to those!
I feel your pain Vicki - I have shelled out around £80 now on things I need for the course, plus course fees. There are also 2 trips, london and nyc, but I cant justify the expenditure tbh - besides it is not part of the course so wont benefit hugely and I'd rather spend that time doing proper work!
Hope everyone has a nice week! x |

| Lol nice one wonder woman!
Lisa, your probably right about your assignment! Hope you get a good mark! I don't have long lunches at all infact I only get 45 mins each day!
I haven't really paid much attention to how much I've spent tbh.
I've met a couple of really nice girls who are in all my lessons which is nice, were all looking to go into midwifery as well fingers crossed!
There's also a few people that are just plain idiots, I've got frustrated a couple of times with stupid women talking the whole time, I mean what's the point in being tree if your just gonna interrupt the whole time!
Oh I've also secured 3 days work experience in my area! Which I'm excited about as I get a day on the ward a day in the community and another else where! I'm doing that rather than volunteering as I can't really afford to give up one evening a week tbh. |

| Woowee what a week! We had our full timetable of lessons and its pretty hard going! But having said that i feel good! The gap between gsce and a-level in biology and chemistry is massive!! but i still managed to keep up! Had a whole day of maths and maths for scientists which was errrm fun lol! All in all i'm really enjoying it! I'm loving that my brain is working again! Loving meeting new people and generally having fun! The only down side is not being with my little man, The past couple of days he's cried as soon as i pass him to his aunt, breaks my heart. But he's well looked after and is always very happy to see me! Hope your all doing well xx |

| How's everyone? Am I the only one here lol! Things are good, but I think I may have to change to part time. I am having to rely on family as child care and unfortunatly it's not quite working as expected I'm gutted but so long as I can study I'll do what I can and what I need to! |

| Oh hellooo fellow students I'm doing an access to health professions course to hopefully go to university next year to study midwifery! My time table is fab, wednesday and thursday 3pm - 7.30pm and fridays 9am - 2.30pm. Alfie's dad has him thursday afternoon till friday evening and my parents put him to bed on wednesdays for me so it's worked out great for me Means i still get to spend nearly as much time with him as i did anyway! I'm loving doing something with my life again and feeling like it's going somewhere. The ladies on my course are all lovely too. Got my first assignment back and wasn't too pleased with my results but hey ho it was the first one so i know where i can improve next time! How's everyone else getting on? |

| Hey Lisa, glad you have a good timetable!
Mine was one of the main reasons I have changed! For just 15 hours of actual teaching I was there 4.5 days a week, some days 9-4.30, others started at 10 but still almost all day! I was never seeing Izzy, and it was so hard.
SO now I am doing a photography diploma at home, its more focused on the things I need to learn to do freelance photography so better for me
You know I started the access midwifery diploma - I really wanted to do it but was so worried that I would spend a few years qualifying and then might not enjoy doing it as a job
That's why I have stuck with photography, I already do a lot and know I love it, it will be a flexible job to do around having Izzy and any siblings and there is no risk I wont enjoy it! |

Glad you figures things out with your diploma Lisa, are you back working again now?
Lisaandalfie, I'm doing the same course as you! Which specialish subjects did you take? I'm doing human biology, chemistry for life sciences, health psychology and maths for scientists!
I've had to change some of my lessons to twilight hours but it seems to be working well! I'm in Tuesday and Friday days and Wednesday and Thursday evenings for a few hours.
Hope your both enjoying it! X |

| Lisa i'd say you've made the right choice then, sounds like you'll really enjoy being a photographer! I don't think i could have spent that much time away from Alfie either so i don't blame you for changing! Kell i never got to pick any? did you get a choice?! I don't even know what they do on the rest of the course all i know is what we have already done and what we'r doing now Just completed the IT module, i'm on my third academic writing essay just now and we've just started maths and biology. Personal statement got done today and after fretting that i had nothing to write on it i ended up writing too much! Typical lol! It actually sounds good so i'm pleased & just hope it gets me an interview! |
