| I seriously need to lose weight. Prob about 3 stone but if I lost 2 I could live with myself. Im in such a bad habit of eating feck all during the day, ready meal or oven chips and kievs etc for tea and then in the evenings maybe crisps and a sandwhich/huge bowl of cereal before bed. Took Caitlin to the park at weekend for a picnic and running after her killed me, I can also feel my chin cushioned on my chest iykwim
Anyhoo I was thinking I want to detox/kickstart a diet for 7-10 days (starting next mon as wanna use up this weeks shop, excuses excuses lol). Do you think its possible to eat only fruit and maybe soups for a week? Has anyone tried a crash diet like that? Im worried i'l end up moody or faint. Im also wondering of it will work out quite expensive. I love grapes, blueberries etc but they are so dear!!! Would slimfast be easier? I liked the idea of eating just fruit because I could get variety and graze all day.
Btw I couldnt decide whether to put this in healthy living forum but then decided people who had previous experience of crash diets may not look there. Feel free to move mods! |

| Get on myfitnesspal and they will tell you the amount of calories you can eat for your weight/height. I would probably advise against a crash diet, mainly 2 reasons:- 1. I heard a year or two ago where a woman did it and died. 2. You will lose it, but end up putting the weight straight back on if you so much as look at a biscuit. xx |

| In my experience yes you can lose a lot in a crush diet - just eating soup meals but you only put it on and more when you stop and it's really bad for your body. I did weight watchers and that worked well. I lost nearly 2st in about 7months and i didn't really feel like i was on a diet a lot of the time. my mum has lost about 5st i think in a yr and a half. I've never tried slimfast but everytime i think about it and look in the shop it seems really expensive.x |

| I agree with the other ladies, dont do the crash diet thing, it will all come back on unless you change how you eat for good I have lost 2 and a half stone doing slimming world, and although its not a quick fix, it does come off eventually XxXxX |

| I personally have never dieted, but if I wanted to I think I would go down the Slimming World/Weight Watchers route. A few girls I work with are doing Slim Fast at the minute, but I dont think I could do that xx |

| I would love to try SW or WW but find it so hard to get to the meetings x Just a tip ladies but if you don't eat after 6.30pm you can lose 1-2lbs a week Em you are right about the fruit though, it is so expensive and the crap fits better into most budgets. Really pisses me off |

| I would really advise against crash diets. I've suffered anorexia and bulimia in the past so know what i'm talking about. I used to survive on between 200 and 400 calories a day. If you go on a crash diet you will lose loads of weight but will put it all back on and more when you stop. It can screw with your metabolism and slow it down. It may also give you stomach cramps especially if you're planning on eating lots of fruit. You'll probably feel tired and moody and you're hair and skin are likely to suffer. I know its tough. I need to lose about 5 stone and its so tempting to do. You're much more likely to keep it off if you do it slowly though. Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant but my problems started with a crash diet so its something I feel strongly about |

Similar story to mine, although I didnt suffer from bulimia. Honestly Snoops the best way is a healthy diet with plenty of exercise. xxx |

| I see your point Liberty as it had a bad outcome for you, but not everyone is going to end up with an eating disorder after a crash diet. My mum is 56 and only does this very rarely when she has put a few pounds on, but she only weighs 10 stone now anyway.
The whole point of the one she is on is that it is very short, just 3 weeks, and is not recommended for longer than that - I think its when people can't keep to what they should do and carry on the diet - which is obviously really bad! |

| ISorry like I said was a bit of an over the top reaction. If you want to do one it might be best to see your dr as they can give you a safe minimum number of calories for you. I'd also advise taking vitamin supplements as it will help you stop feeling tired. One tip I can give you generally is to drink lots of water. If you do it every time you feel hungry you'll find that a lot of the time you. then won't want to eat, especially if you're eating out of boredom or thirst (which can feel like hunger). Good luck whatever you decide to do |

| Lisa there is no way I could keep up a diet like that for 3 weeks, your mum must be motivated! My friends mum is a bit like your mum, mid 50's and a cpl times a year is on some faddy diet. She always loses 7-10lb and then a few months later is at it again - guess this proves the point though that crash diets aint a long term solutiion. However it gives her the confidence for going on a cruise, an xmas dinner so works for her. She is a nurse and couldnt see her doing something if it was really dangerous.
Iv done the whole ww thing before and lost 4 stone the 1st time... put a bit back on and then lost 2 stone last year. I know it works and the weight stays off, I was just thinking of something to kickstart a diet and make me appreciate food more when I started WW again.
Liberty I do see your point but I assure you I'l not get an eating disorder. If I managed to stick to this for 1 week it would be a miracle! I agree about vit tabs too. Im so run down atm catching every cold going because of my rubbish diet Id been thinking of starting them anyway.
I'l look into some of the diets on amys link this week, but atm I like the sound of cereal for breaky, yoghurt and fruit for lunch, soup for dinner and snack on fruits in between. I bet for some people thats their normal healthy diet lol! |

| hey hey!
I've done loads of different diets, from the shakes, to only eating fruit and veg, only having soup, only having cornflakes. To a high protein diet I've done them all. I was even on fat pills for a bit. And i still at the end of the+day gone back to my start weigh.
I put on loads of weight, after paige, went up to a huge 15 and a half stone. Size 16/18 I lost the half of stone and kept it+off.
Now im pregnant, the hospital doctor and midwife said i need to lose about two stone due to health reasons i have. I've been told i have to stay under 15 stone through out my pregnancy. And I've done it so far! All I've done is try cut out snacks, don't eat after 6 and no drinks, plus a few mins on my body step thing. All I can say is slowly does it and it works. I+vigour once this baby is+born, ill carry on with the not eating pass 6 n what not so it will stay+off and hopefully lose the last stone and a bit x |

| I think a huge part of my problem is eating late. We dont tend to eat till 7.30/8 when Alfie goes to bed and sometimes i do end up feeling like a have a full stomach. I think from next week im going to try and make sure i eat at least before 7. Ive lost another 3lb this week from having tonsilitis and not being able to eat. Im going to head to the fruit and veg shop soont o get all my fruit in for the week cos its one of the only things that im able to eat atm. x |
