My IBS is a bit odd. It always starts with a pain right in the middle of my tummy where, if you were pg, would be the top of your bump. This lasts for weeks sometimes and normal painkillers don't relieve it. Once the pain starts I know with in a couple of days that I'll get an upset stomach which will wake me in the middle of the night. Depending how bad it is it can be like this for 1 night or for a week. But then I can go from Diahorea to being bunged up in a day. It's madness like my digestive system just stops working. My trigger is anything stressful. I knew with my break up with Dave I'd get a flare up at some point. I was surprised I got away with it only lasting for 4 days in one go. Cream, chilli, Dorito's, too much chocolate and alcohol seem to set it off too but it's much shorter lived than one brought about by stress. It's funny as my mind can cope well with stressful situations but my stomach can't! I hope you haven't got it hun xxx

Im a bit like that there is no exact food sets me off. fatty food is the main one really, I get agony cramps and diarreah (sp?) and I go like 10 times a day wayyy TMI sorry. But if I eat fatty foods, sausages, mince meat etc I start. but also some times I can eat bread then another times I cant. I find some times Im ok to eat pizza then some days Il pay for it for next few days. Its all a gamble with me lol how I am goin to be the next day ro few days after. Coke or anything fizzy is another that sets me off, beans, peas anything shelled. chik peas, hummus argh just a matter of keeping a food diary and see what sets it off or not. Iv been back and fore to drs for years had all sorts of tests (sooo umpleasent) given so mnay differnt drugs nothing helps or stops it or sends me the other way. So Iv given up, the only thing I find really helps me is pepermint tablets can can get from holland and barret or somewhere like that. really help me and help with bloating. its a matter or trial and error really x

Ive always wondered if I have this too, there are certain foods I eat that trigger off terrible stomach cramps which only ease after I go to the loo with diarrhea (sp) Im then ok for sometimes half hour - hour and then it kicks off again. I also find any kind of stressful situations start it off too.

Em it's horrid when you're chained to the house with it isn't it? I had to call in sick to work a couple of weeks ago as I couldn't predict when I'd need to go and I literally had to run. It's awful when it gets like that. Plus mine is worse at night for some reason so I'm up all night with it sometimes.

Caffeine is a main trigger for me, but since I have started having caffeine free coke and decaffeinated coffee things have calmed a bit. But I have to be very careful with dairy products as sometimes they trigger my IBS and sometimes they don't I do get a really bad case of the cramps and runs every few mornings when I get out of bed

mine was brought on by stress but fortunately it's not bothered me since being pregnant fizzy juice is my biggest enemy but I can have it now and again. If I find something that sets me off and I want it I just make sure I'm not doing anything the next day, like planning for a hangover
