What do you think about telling lies to young children?

Where do you think it changes from a white lie to a big lie!?

Whatdo you think is acceptable and what's not?

For me I think something like telling Izzy all the biscuits have gone is a white lie, because she understands that if they have all gone then she cant have another one, maybe I am taking the easy route because I know if I just said she couldn't have one cos she has already had 2 then she wouldn't accept that so easily!

I am still un-decided on the whole Father Christmas thing...I'd rather not have her little heart broken when a brat in school tells her he doesn't exist..but not sure as Dan think sits harmless

I do the biscuits thing too. Tbh I don't think white lies are a problem in any situation if its done with good intentions i.e. "does my bum look big in this?" - "nooooooooooo hun it looks fine" Wink or "do you fancy an early night babes? Wink " - "I'm reeeeeeaaaaallly tired and got a major headache coming on" Laughing

Defo on the santa thing though - it's a MAJOR part of childhood for me and want my children to have a little bit of that innocent magic while they can because they grow up far too fast these days. I can't say I was heart broken when I eventually found out he wasn't real - it's just a part of growing up. I think I actually liked being in on the secret because my brother still believed and I felt all grown up because I knew the truth before him Wink

I've told MJ little white lies like there are none left as little children don't really grasp the concept of you can't have any more.

As a child I never believed in Santa, my daddy never told me lies (I grew up with my daddy) the tooth fairy never existed and looking back I would've loved to have all that Christmas build up then the excitement of running down the stairs in the morning.

I tell MJ that Santa leaves the stocking on her bed after all why should he take all the credit for all the cool gifts lol lol. Seriously this is just something hubby and I spoke about and agreed on xxx

We do Santa but that's about it. I tend to tell Wil the truth about other stuff. If he has had enough of something I tell him so and that's the end of it, a few minutes of pouty looks and feet stamping and he gets distracted and moves on.

i tell little white lies too, such as the biccy thing, but at leos age i dont, i just tell him no more, if he gets monk on tough thats life and he needs to learn i say no for a reason

posibly other little fibs too, that wont affect anyone like, sorry im late for work the traffic was hurendous...when actually i just had an extra cuppa and didnt notice the time Embarassed

im a rubbish liar, people can see right through me, so i dont tell proper lies at all, i just cant say the words...i really hated that trait when i was 16 and my mum asked if i was sexually active Embarassed plus i dont have a good enough memory to tell lies, id be caught out lol

i deffo thell the santa lie, i think its a lovley magical lie that brings excitment for a few innocent years of their lives...plus i wouldnt want them being the only one who knew he wasnt real and spoiling it for everyone else in their class, unfortunatley they will find out the truth one day, but ill we will just have to cross the bridge when we get to it x

We tell lies!

I've just asked my oh and my 20 year old and my 13 year old about Santa and they think it would be awful not to allow ellie the enjoyment of fatherChristmas etc. They said they weren't upset when they found out that it wasn't true. (Charlotte believed until she was 12) lol.

But whether it's right or wrong, we're doing the lot, Santa, tooth fairy and Easter bunny

LISA EVANS!!!! If you tell Izzy that Santa does not exist I am going to come and get you for being so mean!!! Very Happy Shocked What a Face

I think white lies are ok, like Santa, tooth fairy etc or if it is soemthing that they are genuinely too young to understand. I woudl try and explain things properly where possible tho xx

I was told the same lie as we used to go past it every day on the way home. I said in my post my daddy never lied but he did - twice. Once is in relation to above and the other was that my dog had gone to the farm, every weekend I begged to go to the farm to see my dog! Why couldn't he have just told me it had died?? Would've saved me asking all the time grrr Mad

Your dad sounds like mine. He was always telling us he was in the army, it took me sitting down and working out his life history to realise he didnt have time to have served in the army!

I think white lies and fantasy are ok, as long as they are said with the best intentions not malice. Even though i was told by someone at school about Santa it didn't ruin it for me. It's the magic of christmas.
