Our two year has become a real tinker. She's taken to smacking and pushing her one year old sister over. If she's at playgroup and she is frustrated she tends to smack whoever is nearest. Any advice would be so welcome as it really upsets her sister and time out doesn't seem to work.

Hiya, welcome to Banda hun, nice to 'see' you here

I think you need to be firm and consistent in your approach. Whenever she hits out, remove her from the situation. I put Chloe in the naughty corner when she hits out for a couple of minutes. I would take her away let her calm down and explain to her that her behaviour isn't acceptable and it hurts her sister when she hits her. I would also have a chat with the nursery and see what they suggest, I guarantee they would have experienced it before and may have some tips on how to deal with it x

Welcome to Banda Hitting toddler 449885

If Wil hits he gets removed from the situation and told his behaviour is unacceptable. He then has to go and say sorry to whoever he hits. He also gets a warning that if he repeats the behaviour he will be permanently removed from the situation

Hiya, My LO was going through the exact same thing a few weeks back. He would just randomly hit other kiddies for no reason - not even out of frustration, it appeared he did it just for the sake of it or to see their reaction scratch

I tried the saying No, and getting him to apologise..but that didn't work. What we did was ever ytime he did lash out we removed him from the situation straight away and placed him in his pram for 2 mins, no conversation etc. After 2 mins we took him out and then said 'we do not hit people!' then get him to apologise, then cuddles.
If we didn't have the pram handy, we would just remove him from the situation and sit on the floor with him between our legs (facing him away) for 2 mins, then the 'no, we do not hit people' sorry's and cuddles.

This is the only thing that worked for us, and it worked in a matter of days. I can now take my LO to playgroups again and feel confident that he's not going to lash out cheers

Hi all,

Thanks for the suggestions. We don't smack so don't know where she's picked it up from. She's not a great talker so we suspect it's half frustration and half to see the reaction. We did use the naughty corner but she would just run. We are now giving her a warning and if she does it again she goes into time out in her old highchair. Am hoping this helps. Thanks for all the suggestions. And to know its not just my toddler who does it :-)
