Breastfeeding mommas? _
PostSubject: Breastfeeding mommas?   Breastfeeding mommas? EmptySat Apr 09, 2011 6:19 am

Did any of you find you had one boob that worked 'better' than the other?

Im not sure if me rights working properly lol. If i latch awen on the left she chugs a good un for 10-15 mins til shes proper milk monged and full. But if i latch her on the right she feeds for maybe 5 mins then gets bored and falls asleep but will wake up 30-60 mins later wanting more. So i have to wake her up and relatch and struggle to get another 5 mins out of her on the right. But if after that 5 mins i put her on left instead she feeds really well.

Ive been pumping once a day to get her used to bottles and usually seem to be getting more outta left than right too. Not a huge difference but im not getting loads yet anyway so left might give 1.5-2 ounces and right maybe an ounce. But then today ive been putting her on the right every single feed to try and get things 'evened up' and when i pumped got a full amount outta both so dunno if its just cos ive been using it all day or if im imagining it and going nuts!!!

Any advice?

i pretty much always fed out of my left, even when i expressed i could only get an ounce out of my right and 4 or 5 out of my left, it just seemed to produce more milk .

Left breasty-dumpling always the winner! Apart from a brief phase where lefty was cracked and supply was generally low due to having been ill, left was always favourite and more productive.

I think it might in part be to do with my own posture - like you naturally cross your legs one way over the other and most people usually wear their bag on one preferred shoulder, it must just be comfier on one side for some babies.

You can boost supply in either or both with expressing and using one more than the other, but only if it bothers you. Not sure if it's a latch thing or a supoly thing for you though... Did improving supply help?

No advice here either, I used to think this too but just carried on alternating sides and all was well x

I allways preferred right boob as left was a bit bigger and more difficult for boys to feed from but I did alternate boobs. X

I always alternated but found it more comfortable feeding from my right I think scratch , def found one easier than the other but it was a positioning/comfort thing for me. I didnt notice Caitlin feeding better from either one.

Id prob just keep alternating and maybe make more of an effort to pump from the one producing less milk to try and spur it on. Id be scared of favouring one boob and the ending up with one GIANT tit and one tiny one!

My right initially seemed to produce more milk and Jamie seemed to prefer it. I just kept alternating and eventually they seem to have evened up

Hahahaha snoopy I did actually LOL then and had to explain why to Dom who didn't find it funny in the slightest!

Just as an aside though, babies are a lot better at getting milk out than pumps are, so don't do pumping instead of feeding, do it as well, or you'll go the wrong way!

hahaha snoops you're such a weirdo Wink

i DO have one giant boob and one tiny one...or not quite so dramatically, left always had better supply, even now, and right did just fine but rarely got overfull or anything. it started that way and i think continued cos i discovered i could feed on lefty and do stuff with my right arm (fill washing machine...drink cup of tea.....type on banda...)

so i am pretty squint but maybe i was always that way and never noticed before?!
