i know all kids are supposed to have a 2yr check...but is it compulsory?

we got a letter saying lily-ann needs her 2yr check, but we don't want her to have it! the hv is useless and totally ignored our concerns about lily-ann...then come back 6months later, doing a lewis check and said 'oh the dr referred you to a specialist...oh yeh, i was going to do that'...bullsh*t!

anyways this woman hasn't got a clue about lily-ann, her condition or what she can/can't/should/shouldn't do so is there really any point in it?? but i'm not sure if we'll get it sh*t for refusing to allow her to see lily-ann

any ideas?

No they are not compulsory Kenty. Tbh, I can't see any point in a HV coming to see Lily-ann as she probably know's feck all about her or her development.

We haven't even had anything through with regards a 2yr check. He had a language development check but that was through surestart.

Im sure you can opt out, its not like lily-anne isnt being seen by other professionals. (that im guessing may be of concern to a HV if parents are opting out, incase they are hiding something - which you obviously arent!).

The 2 year check was scrapped in my area anyway due to budget cuts (dont get me started, in my town this year 100 children arent getting a nursery year as not enough places). Caitlin had a check at 4 months, jabs at 12 months and then nothing until her school readiness assessment when she is 4 or 5

You can request another hv, you have to put it in writing, also doc could do the check.

But I agree my first hv was excellent, but second was crap, especially when it came down to his disabilities.

if it were me i would avoid the hv check ,, assuming lily-ane gets assessed by specialists that are more clued up on her condition than your local hv would be x

she's on 3monthly checks with her pediatrician and sees either physio, OT, speech and language therapist or portage worker at least once a week...usually 2 or 3 a week...so there are plenty of professionals involved with her

i don't fancy her coming in and asking if she's talking yet, walking at all, what she i/isn't doing...what's the point if you don't even had the common sense to look up her condition before doing the visit!

i think we'll be cancelling that appointment and hope we don't get any sh*t from them

The idea I got from the letter was that if you were concerned about any of the things then they should have one, i didn't bother, even though at the time she wasn't doing it all, I don't need a nosy HV to tell me she should be doing whatever!

I don't think I'd take Lily-Ann though, only because I am pretty sure she is getting the best help already - and really I doubt an HV would be any use at all to you!

If you do get any sh*t from not going,
I'd actually say that you felt another medical person doing a check that is unnecessary, is actually upsetting for the child and intrusive, you would prefer her to have medical appointments that are going to assist Lo, rather than tell you what you already know.

Just a thought, I've been thinking about your post and I know from work if I feel a child is having too many medical for one thing and another, I cam cancel routine development checks along as they are being seen regularly by other medical professionals and there are no issues that have not already been looked into.

I wouldn't take lily-ann as she's getting much better and more relevant care from elsewhere. I'd give hv a ring to explain.

I've been really lucky as the team of hv we see are fab (apart from one, who's very sweet but useless) I usually look forward to any assessments that ellie needs.

Dont think they're compulsary. Chloe hasn't seen a HV since her 12 mth check.

would definately skip it too, all they do is ask you all them questions, and lily-ann would get no benefit from it, she is already getting the care she needs elsewhere x

It is completely pointless for Lily-Ann. The HV will have a checklist with boxes to tick and because of her condition Lily-Ann isn't going to fit her boxes. Cancel it, they can't force you go and they will probably understand anyway.


Wil probably won't have a 2 year check either because if we get invited it is bound to be in office hours and I am not taking time off work for some hv to tell me what I already know.

Little sod will probably refuse to cooperate anyway so the results will be wrong The only bit she will probably get is his language as he announces 'want to play football, going now, bye' and waves at her as he opens the door.

when i got lillysd 2 yr check letter through its had in bold letters, that its not compulsory and if we wanted to cancel the appointment its not an issue, i wouldnt think you should get shit for cancelling it hun xxx

We were meant to have one, then in Sept just before Seans birthday they changed their minds and stopped doing them! and then in January decided they were doing them again but no retrospectively!
They can't be that important if the HV's can't even be arsed to do them lol
Its not like Lily-ann isn't being checked regularly enough by different professionals, don't worry about it.
Kara was meant to be having loads of visits from our HV - I've seen one! flamin eejits

I don't think I would bother either, she is getting checks elsewhere. H has his 2 yr check next week, my hv is coming to the house and I must say she is fab x
