worrying about routine _
PostSubject: worrying about routine   worrying about routine EmptyWed Sep 08, 2010 6:47 am

Hi

Alfie is really good with his bed time routine. He goes upstairs at 7 for bath, bottle around 7.30 and asleep by about 7.45/8ish. He then sleeps right through till at least 7.30 which is fab.

The thing is i cant stop thinking and worrying about how his routine will change and how he will adapt to it as he gets older? For example, what happens when he gets a bit older and can feed himself? My friends little boy drinks his milk downstairs and then just goes upstairs and gets into bed and goes to sleep. And what if we have to adapt his routine slightly - for example were going to a family wedding and not planning on coming homw tilll 9. Would we then give him his bottle at 7.30 as per usual or give him supper at 7.30 and then give him his last bottle before he goes to bed?!

I know i shudnt worry about this and im sure alfie will adapt just fine - but i cant stop lol!!

x

I usually try and stick to feeding at the same time, even if I'm not home, so that I can keep to a routine. Do you think he'll fall asleep before you come home from the wedding or is he likely to stay awake? If he'll go asleep after his bottle I'd give it him at the same time as normal. I've already had to start adapting Stephen's routine as I've started weaning him but he has adjusted fine. I think as he gets older, he'll just fall into a new routine and you'll adapt as you need to don't worry! xxx worrying about routine Icon_biggrin

Matthew has a very similar routine to your lo, bath 6.30 bottle and bed at 7pm and we used to stick to that where ever we were, now matthew is that bit older i find that when we go out for the evening like to my mums for tea i give him his tea at 5pm as usual but hold off his milk till we are back home as he settles much better if he has his milk just before sleep. We tend to take our high chair to my mums and give him healthy snacks to keep him entertained whilst we eat. In the early days of doin ghtis we did take a bottle with us just in case but very quickly he adapted to this.

Try not to worry about his routine too much, i know i used to but they seem to manage with the odd night out of the routine and when it comes to changing it, it's not like it's going to be one great big jump from baby routine to 3 year old one, it's gonna happen gradually over time.

hope this helps

now that your in a routine you have the hardest part out of the way. Adapting it is easy you just go with what your LO wants Smile

as Tylers getting older hes needing a little less sleep so we are keeping up a little bit later and have started waking him from his naps (when he sleeps for over 90 mins)
Im hoping it will just fall into place Smile
