| I need some advice or your experience.
I have a one year old male castrated cat. and about 2 weeks ago someone handed a gorgeous young male cat in to my work. he had on a lovely collar and was microchipped but when we called the company the owner hadnt registered the details. I sat and called every practice in glasgow and no one has reported him missing. he has been stuck in a kennel for two weeks now and I was going to just bring him home here until someone comes forward. if not I will keep him.
so I just wanted to hear your experiences of introducing your cats to one another. I know cats just tolerate each other anyway so Im not expecting them to love each other but I just dont want to stress them out. will pick up a couple of feliway diffusers at work tomorrow and bring him home on monday.
when he first came in he was trying to lunge at any and every animal that happened to pass his kennel and now he seems a lot calmer. so Im hoping his 2 week stay with us has socialised him and he should be ok. its probably my cat that will be a total pain in the ass! but then hes my baby so I dont want him to be upset either.

| have you a room you can keep him in for a few days with the door shut. Put a litter tray and food in there and let your other cat just get used to his smell in the air. Then i got my two some of those treat sticks and when i let missy in to see g i shared them between them |

| I'd had my boy cat for 2.5 years when I introduced my little girl. He had the right hump at first but after a while curiosity got the better of him and now they get on well.
I would keep the new cat in one room to start with away from your other cat and feed them in separate rooms too. You can just gradually let them come into contact by leaving the door of the room open so they can wander in and out.
They will find their own level if you leave them to it so don't worry about pushing them together or apart.
Make sure you give you cat loads of affection if he likes affection so he still feels loved |

| I've got two. I had Baby (10 ur old female) first and then got (8 week old female, Norwegian Forest Cat when Baby was 6. The first week was a nightmare with Baby throwing hissy fits everytime new kitten came in the room. But it did calm down and Baby did eventually get to like new kitty. The new kitty sadly got killed in November and Baby pined for her. So we got another new kitty at Christmas, she's a Maine Coon and was 11 weeks). Baby adapted quite quickly and they're happy sisters now. We still a few hissy fits though but I suppose it'just cats being cats.

| I've heard 2 females are worse......(guess what I have?? ) my cats still don't really get on after nearly 2 years but the almost tolerate each other. Millie was only 5 weeks old when we got her and Zoey (about 3 at the time I think) just hissed at her all the time, so she only got brought in for small periods. Now Millie beats the crap out of Zoey |

| we have 3 cats... all girls
2 are twins and 6 yrs old, we introduced kc 2 yrs ago.
they were funny at first, but seperating them with a room for a coupleo fdays, getting use to smells helped.
squeak mothered her, but she does that to everyone including russ
lola still now hits when she goes past or hisses if she doesnt like the way she is walking, but in general they ok.
and they all girls so should be more difficult. |

| I have a 13 yo abysinian tabby Tigga, when James moved in he bought his 2 cats, brothers Felix and Gizmo..... They were all 10 years at the time. They stropped to start with, then Tigga and Gizmo had a bit of a fight, no damage and after that the brothers knew Tigga was bosscat and left him alone. We've since lost Gizmo, and Felix and Tigga have become closer.. they still have swipe fights where 1 walks past the other swipes and then they roll around. But at 13 now they are like 2 grandads Go for it, try it for a bit and see what happens... |

| I had 2 cats (bro and sis) for 3 years and then got another kitten. I put them in separate rooms for a week but when I was home, I would slowly let them spend 5 mins here and there getting to know each other.
Keep feeding bowls separate so neither get upset. I'm sure it will all be fine hun x |

| ah thanks for the replies. I am kinda hoping the owners come forward at some point. but just dont want to leave him in a kennel until they do.
will see how it goes. I suppose being locked in a room is better than a kennel eh! x |
