| My kids are too young to get a letter (I think), but I actually think its a good idea. We dread the day Aimee says she smokes (Lily too, but Aimee moreso) and I would be more than happy if the option was removed for her. x |

| I think it is ridiculous and highly unlikely to happen. If it is made illegal the government won't make any tax out of it and the British economy will plunge into chaos.
It sounds like a hoax to me.
Making smoking illegal will just send it into the same underworld as other drugs, the quality of the product will decline and criminal gangs will control it.
I would be less surprised if heroin was legalised than smoking made illegal
(I am an ardent anti-smoker btw) |

| I think its a fantastic idea in the respect of our childrens health and future.
However I agree about the tax problem. I was on a website around the time of the budget that showed the taxes on different items and for each pack of cigarettes at £6.50 the govt get over £5. Here's the link
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/vices-calculator
The average smoker is giving the govt £1500 a year in taxes. Considering around 20% of the adult population smoke (millions of people!) that is a phenomenal amount of money.
I want the best for Caitlin but does everybody else want to pay an extra £400 a year in tax to make up for it, or see education/health lose some of their budget? Its a very tricky one and I cant make up my mind on it. x |

| won't tell you which way to vote Gemz but all I will say is making it illegal won't stop kids doing it but it will cost the country money.
The best way to stop kids smoking is to give them the self confidence and self esteem to say no to the peer pressure the vast majority will experience at some point. |

| I agree with Gill, its ridiculous. The government would never be able to police it! It was illegal for me to start smoking at 14 but I still did it, I dont see how this is any different |

| Is it anonymous?
Id be inclined to tick no and forget about it if it was me, and if I had to put my name on it id add a line explaining that due to tax loss to the economy I could see how it would be detrimental to the general population. Just so the teacher didnt think I was pro kids smoking. But then maybe I justify myself too much and there's no need to explain!
Until I stopped and thought about it I think my 1st reaction would have been yes. |

| I agree its a ridiculous notion, it would increase ttaxation immesuarably and at the same time place a greater burden on police time enforcing it. Are they going to classify it as a drug or something? And if they did how can they say 1999 birthdays or before may use this drug but 2000 onwards cant. Wont come to fruition. |
