I got Jamie a sippy cup the other day. Its 4 months plus although he struggles with it at the mo (although he looks like getting his getting water out at the moment). I'm not so worried about that as its really for when I go back to work in september and I just wanted him to start getting used to cups. Anyway I then read something that said they shouldn't use sippy cups. Is this true and did any of you prefer a different kind of cup?

When Oliver first started with cups he was about 4/5mth (He was breastfed so never took to bottles) anyhoo, it was the tommie tippiee 'first cup', the free flow cup..that was fine until they start throwing it round and they get more water on the floor than in their mouth Laughing

I think they don't recommend the sippy (non spill) cup cos of the whole teeth problem sucking/erosion of the teeth..but obviously with water there's no problems.

I found the best best best cup was the cow cup. They are brilliant and can't recommend them enough

Its one of the non spill cups that they have to suck to get the drink out of.
Thanks zee. His breastfed and don't see the point of putting him on a bottle to take him back off again. Will look out for a cow cup. Guess i'm going to have to experiment a bit to find the best anyway

this kind has been the only sort we have used:

http://www.tommeetippee.co.uk/product/first_cup_4_months___/

they are free flow (but the water doesn't pour out if it's tipped - unless of course elijah shakes and shakes it haha) so they need to suck a little bit but not as much as with non-spill cups.

eli started using it at about 5 months and has never had any trouble, you can fold the spout down too so they don't spill in your bag. i really like them and they fit in most sterilisers for little ones.

it saved us getting elijah back into using a bottle (used one for 3 months combined feeding) so he has water/juice/milk from that, and bf too, hopefully we are totally bypassing bottles Smile i would really highly recommend those cups, they are pretty cheap from tesco Smile

Wil has these cups

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=259607393

He had the Tommee Tippee first cups to start with then went on to these when he was about 18 months.

Now he either uses these cups, a sports bottle/ fruit shoot bottle or an open cup

We have the cow cups too - the new ones (no valve) are fantastic!
