First topic message reminder :

Just reading Jaynes post about applying for nursery and ive been reading up on my local coucil website. The nursery I want Thomas to go to starts addmissions in August so I don't need to worry yet BUT they anly do a September intake. All kids are entitaled to 15 hours free per week (term time) from the term after their 3rd birthday. For Thomas this will be in January 2012 but the nursery wont take him until September.

I was just wondering if everyone is getting their LOs into nursery as soon as they are eligible or waiting until their prefered schools intake?

I could try to get Thomas into a private nursery for his free hours from Jan and then swap him in the September but I don't know what to do. I do think it would be good for him to go in Jan but then I worry that he will just be getting used to one nursery when he has to switch to another. Also because of the lifestyle we have we do tend to be away for long weekends (fri-tues/thurs-sun) quite often (at least once a month if not more) and the kids go to visit their grandparents for 3-4 days every 6-8 weeks too. As soon as Thomas starts nursery proper this will stop/reduce which is fine but I don't know wether to just wait until the September so we can get a few more trips in before he does? Is this selfish of me?

Don't know what to do nursery/pre school - Page 2 548646

Ours is £7 per 3 hour session. Personally, if you cant afford it, then dont put him in until January. Just say that you wont be here in September, and maybe fib and say October too. xx

Gracie starts in October so she will be 2years 9months and ours is £7per session i cant wait to put her in and have her mixing with different children and learning to a structured education program also that she will have friends already when she starts at school.

We are also wondering how we will afford it as she isn't entitled to free sessions until April next year x

if you can i would get him in as soon as possible if you can afford it x

Ok so I went and had a look - turns out its £13.50 a morning with a minimum of 2 mornings a week so no chance I can afford that. The woman was really pushy and I couldn't get a word in edgeways so didnt get a good impression either.

I have spoke to another one who already seem so much nicer, are more than happy for him to start in January and if I go down monday they will secure him a place there and then so woop! cheers I've looked at the websites for both and the one on monday looks so much nicer and better equiped too so bonus! They split the 15 hours into 2 days 9-3 and 1 day 9-12 so that will be good (a little scary leaving him all day though Shocked Sad). Aww our babies are growing up ladies!! how sad but exciting!!! Very Happy nursery/pre school - Page 2 270211

Glad it seems to be working out. I wouldnt be happy leaving Caitlin somewhere that just seemed like they were pushing for business. She should be listening to your concerns as his mum.

Im sure he will love it and be more ready for it in Jan. Its hannah I feel sorry for lol (they seem so close in your pics), at least next year she will be dying to go if she see's all the fun her big bro gets to have! x

Well reading this thread booted me up the bum and have spent this week looking. When i go back t work my families helpig with childcare as to put em btoh in nursery means one of my shifts a week id be working for free and id end up better off a month to cut my hours and work 3 short nights (915-730) instead of the 2 long nights (1930-0830) and a short day of 8 hours i do now. So have decided to trial working my 32.5 hours with family childcare and if its not working cut my hours rather than start sticking em in nursery. But do very much want C to do something as she needs to socialise and she would probably benefit from pre school.

Have found a place about 3 miles from me by my mums house that takes from 2. Its had an ofsted inspection in jan and got all 2s which is good and the lady on the phone seemed lovely. Im going to look monday and if i like it she said she will take me through the forms to put her on the waiting list. Fingers crossed it doesnt take too long if i like it. Its 3 hours twice a week for 12 pound a week and if a place comes up during my mat leave ive decided to take it as it will get C used to being away from me before i go back to work and will find the money somehow. We picked that area as its where i used toi live when i lived at home and am hoping to move back to in 18 months time once the lease is up on thisplace so we may as well send her to pre school there as its right next door to where im hoping she will go to school. Plus when my family have her its easier for them to pick her up and not be traipsing around everywhere, whereas i dont mind doing the car run to drop her off.

SOrry for threadjacking that was meant to be a thanks for this thread givig me a kick to get started

Haha threadjack away hun - it's interesting to see what other people have planned for their LOs.

I feel a lot better now knowing I have a plan in place for him. I do think he will benefit from it and if we had the spare cash we would send him in September but we just don't in the position we are now. Things will be a lot easier in Jan - but he gets it free then anyway Rolling Eyes. Tbf though - I have no worries about him in a development sense anyway, he has come on leaps and bounds in the last few months and is also helping Hannah with her milestones too ( he likes nothing more than to walk her across the room holding her hand then let go and clap her when she does it herself nursery/pre school - Page 2 270211)

Snoops - I am actually really worried about Hannah when Thomas goes to preschool nursery/pre school - Page 2 548646. Although they fight at times - they adore each other and can't stand to be apart. If one of them wakes up from their nap before the other they whine until their mate gets up Rolling Eyes. They play together brilliantly now and it melts my heart when I find them sat on the sofa cuddling watching beebies or when they help each other get into mischief - they are little partners in crime Suspect. I'm going to have to work really hard at finding things to do with her while he's gone but I can foresee trouble! Neutral

PostSubject: Re: nursery/pre school   nursery/pre school - Page 2 EmptySat May 21, 2011 7:50 am

Originally I wanted Oliver to go to the nursery that was attached to the primary school I want him to go to. So I goes down to register him there. She then told me the same as you Debs, that they only have September enrolments, so the sept after his 3rd birthday he would be nearly 4 Rolling Eyes Also, she said, that just because they are enrolled in the nursery, it doesn't mean they would get a place in the school Mad
So I looked around and after talking to my friend I decided to register him with a local preschool/nursery that was run at a local community centre. Its quite small and looks after 0-2yrs/2-3yrs/3-5yrs. I checked out the ofsted too and that came back all 'good'.
I put his name down and the asked where I lived as if I was in the catchment area I would get a funded place for him for 3 half day a week (2yrs+) then he'd get the 15hrs free funded when he turns 3. She didn't believe I lived in the catchment area at the time so I said I would pay for 2 sessions per week if that was the case. So I was put on the waiting list in Feb '11.
Fast forward to last Friday and she rung me to say that there was a space available for him to start on the following Monday Shocked 3 afternoons a week, fuly funded as it appears I do live in the catchment area cheers .

So as you may have seen on my FB he started on Monday.

I wanted to get him into nursery/pre school from an early'ish age, not so much for his development (as I think he's fine in that department - talking, counting and he's finally cottoning on to his colours now Laughing ) but more for his socialising. He loves loves loves other kiddies. We meet up with mummy friends a couple of times through the week and attend 2 toddler groups through the week too and he just loves interacting with other kiddies. I think he just gets bored with his mummy sometimes Sad

It broke my heart when I left him on Wednesday Sad , but Thursday was a much better day. I was watching him playing in the yard with all the others and he does love it now and has made lots of new friends.

Anyhoo, now he has been accepted at this nursery, I will be keeping him there until its enrolment time at big school. Although I would have loved him to go to the nursery attached to the school, I didn't want to wait till he was nearly 4yrs old before he got in there Rolling Eyes . I'm glad I found the current nursery and its lovely for him as its still quite small.
