| Subject: had a nightmare! Sat May 28, 2011 4:47 am | |
| i've been feeling really ropey for a while now, severe headaches, sickness and dizziness, I thought I was pregnant at at one point and then put it down to sleep deprivation. The past week or so David started to feel the same and totally whacked out. I booked in a gas safety check for next week for our boiler because I started to worry there may be a leak and thats why we were feeling so bad.
I got up this morning and felt terrible, I carried Ava downstairs and nearly fell over I was so light headed. I just had a funny feeling it was the gas, so I got us dressed and left the house to go to my mums. David came home from work and phoned the emergency gas number they came out within the hour and shut off the gas supply, when they checked the boiler , there was a carbon monoxide leak. I'm so glad I followed my intuition that something was wrong, can't bear to think about what could have happened.
Anyway bad news is no gas, no cooker , heating or hot water for today.
I phoned NHS direct and they said we didn't need to go to hospital to get checked unless our symptoms don't improve within a few days, does this seem right?
sorry for the essay! |

they left us one today so 'll definately be using it in the future, apparently there was a hole next to the boiler pipe, so it wasn't extracting the fumes just blowing them straight into the house, trying to get someone out to fix it but its just going to voicemail. |

| Im so glad you caught it in time. We got a carbon monoxide monitor as soon as we had our central heating fitted as the boiler is in a cupboard in the nursery. Its great that firestations give them out for free. x |

| thats terrifying! im so glad you realised something was going on. we got an alarm from amazon and it sits next to the boiler - my mum told me i was mental but its a good ten years old (the boiler) so definitely worth it. thank god you followed your intuition!
as the carbon monoxide leaves your system you should feel loads better over the next day or two, i would give it til monday and keep an eye on ava.
michelle im not sure, i think any appliance that uses gas has the potential to leak carbon monoxide? |

| Scary!! So glad you are ok.
I'm so paranoid about gas. Everytime I have a headache I convince myself it's a gas leak, Matt bought us one of those carbon monoxide alarms (i think to stop me whining) but its reassuring. |

Did you notice Ava being different or was it just you and oh? ava was a bit drowzy on that morning but apart from that ok, the engineer said we would have taken in more of the fumes as the boiler is in the kitchen, we only use it when Ava's in bed so luckily she wouldn't have inhaled the same amount. I'm so much better already, after months of constant headaches I feel on top of the world. |
