| Thought it would be really interesting to see what working backgrounds people are from.
At the moment i work in Finance at Social Services, the main role is paying/invoicing nursing homes, clients and families. I also asses people financially if they are considering homecare or long term care or drug/alcohol respite. We also take over financial appointeeship of clients in long term care that have no other family. Its an admin job mainly but deal with alot of elderly people and their families over the phone and in person.
Before that i was a referral co-ordinator for Marie Curie Cancer Care. I would take new referrals from District Nurse of terminal patients and allocate them available nurses to stay overnight to give the family a break.
Before that i worked at Barclays in Accounts.

| I have done part time jobs when i was a student in shops, hairdressers, reception work etc but all my full time jobs have been in HR. I am a HR manager at the mo which means i am responsible for the teams who do recruitment, payroll, procurement, legal services etc. There are lots of interesting bits to the job but also some less pleasant bits like disciplinary and redundancy cases. It is never boring anyway.... I work full time but do all my hours in 4 days so i get thursdays off to be with Lily which is nice |

| I don't work atm and have never really had a career. When i left college I worked in a nursery for about 6months, but the money was awful for the hours i was working (10 a day for £4 an hour) so i left and took a cleaning job and at a school, and then was offered a job helping out with the children at lunch and in the afternoons too. It was just supposed to be a job until i worked out what i really wanted to do, and possibly go back to college, but then i found out i was pregnant so just stayed and left after mat leave. Now I still don't know what to do. I think i'll try an open university course once this next baby arrives.x |

| Wot that fab Michelle!!!
I have done various things since college, payroll, and then became the manager, accounts
The latest was a service desk engineer dealing with converged networks customers, places like hospitals/universities, who had our Cisco systems, and we were the support team. I was first line support, although I was teamleader before I went on Maternity Leave which meant lots of stats and reports
Now I am a full time student, and to fund this sinful life I have just got 2 cleaning jobs although have only started one last night.
My OH works for himself, he does architectural drawings, he's done that since getting his quals. |

| Loved it Michelle. Dont know whether the modules/placements would be slightly different in England.... 1st year was uni sept-may. Did things like psychology, sociology, social policy. service user groups etc. Maybe only in uni 12-15 hrs a week. 2nd year did 17 week placement sept-dec. That was 37hrs a wk, mine was womens aid. Had loadza assingnments to do at same time ( 2x 4000 wrds + a portfolio - was crazy busy.) Then back in uni jan-may for 15 hrs a wk. 3rd year pretty similar to 2nd year. I have single mum friends who managed to keep up. I think you are more focused when you are a mum & I wasnt that good at time management so found it so hard going being on placement and doing essays (I liked the pub too lol). Its really interesting. Id recommend it. In NI you needed 3 B' or A &2B's at A level or AVCE to get in plus GCSE eng & maths. A few of my friends though did a one year access courses as they didnt have Alevels and they coped fine with the work. In fact they did better in their exams than me who had the AVCE. Also in England I dont think you need as much to get into social work. You should look into it xxx |

| Thanks for the info. I guess i better wait till this baby arrives before i make any decisions. I don't have a levels either so i'd either have to do an access course or go through open uni (which i'm considering more)xx |
