And so it begins _
PostSubject: And so it begins   And so it begins EmptyMon May 30, 2011 8:31 am

Well we were upstairs today tidying and C had stripped off her nappy as she does when she started squirming and said her bum felt hot. So i took her to the loo and she did a wee wee. Still not using potty so she did it in the loo and when i went wild she got very excited. So we went to asda and bought some big girl pants and a kinder bar.

When we got home i put her pants on her and she tried to wee but couldnt go so we went downstairs. She was showing me the design on her pants about ten mins later and i asked do you need a wee yet and she said yes but it was her 'im just answering you' yes she gives at times so i didnt pay it much mind then 5 mins later she did wet herself.

Anyways about 45 mins later she asked for a wee so took her upstairs and she did a poo on the toilet to much applause. Following this she did the pants pinging off the thumb across the lounge to my great amusement.

The just before bed she started squirming so we went to the loo but she didnt quite make it.

So we are 2-2 for that day but of the 2 accidents one was my fault for not taking her seriously and the other was a timing issue so not too bad a start. We have a Buzz lightyear eward chart im printing out tommorrow and each time she gets a dry day ill let her have a small treat like a freddo at first and once she gets to a dry week she has picked out a toy she wants. If i know C it wont take her long to cotton on to this.

Shes got her toilet seat with a ladder and ive ordered her a buzz lightyear one for trips to parents and a foldable one for the changing bag. Looks like the pottys a deffo no go. We are using pants at home and shes already in pull up nappies so will use them up for days out then get her some iof the huggies ines as ive seen some buzz ones (seriouly, shes ibsessed)

Wish me luck i have a feeling its gonna be 30 minute checks for a couple days at least cos shes still little yet but i guess ive started now and have to try and see it through if its going well. Im gonna try and regulate her fluids a little though as she drinks like a fish so will pee all the time if i dont. Any hints would be great

Which ladder/seat have you got? Izzy doesn't mind using the potty but Im sure she'd learn better with a ladder seat

Great, Agos do one almost exactly the same for £14.99 too - I'll get one this week

My theory is she sits on the potty and gets off too often and thinks its fun...if she climbs up and sits there she may stay longer lol

PostSubject: Re: And so it begins   And so it begins EmptyTue May 31, 2011 8:28 am

Day 1

Got C out of bed at 750 and took her to loo and she promptly did a wee. About 40 mins later she was squirming so i took her again and she went again. A very good start but at about 10 she got herself in a bit of a tizz and had 4 accidents in an hour. As i think she had gotten herself in a cycle of getting wound up I put a pull up on her and we went to tesco.

When we got back at 12 her pull up had a slight damp to it so popped her on loo but she couldnt go so changed pull up and took her for lunch and 5 mins later she weed in her pull up. Was feeling a little discouraged so asked her if she wanted to go back in a nappy and she said no so decided to see it through.

In afternoon changed things slightly. Left her commando as I thought pants were confusing her. Put a book in upstairs toilet for her and a chair for me so didnt have to sit on the floor! Downstairs I put her potty and put some batteries in it to make it fanfare when she wees and i put her tag junior and some books beside it. Also printed her out a buzz reward chart and put stars on it for each wee and got a bag of magic stars and some freddos.

About 230 I had been asking and asking if she needed to go as had been two hours by then and she finally went so told her since she had gotten 3 stars she could have a freddo. She seemed to cotton on a bit and then 45 mins later actually came and asked me to take her to the toilet for the 1st time and after sitting for a while she went! It was just after this I took Awen up to change her and I heard C shouting she needed a wee but even though i shot downstairs she had weed on the floor. So ive put nappies and wipes for awen downstairs now.

About 430 she started drifting for a nap so i popped a pull up on her and she went to sleep til 530 and woke up dry so took her upstairs and she went in the loo. She then stayed i her pull up through dinner and stayed dry til we took her upstairs for the bath at about 7 and she had a poo on toilet. While i was running the bath she was saying Oh dear Oh dear which i thought was because i told her to stay away from the hot water tap but when i lifted her in the bath she said Oh dear again and then weed so I guess she was working out there was a wee coming.

After that she was nappied and to bed so she ended up with 6 successes to 8 accidents. All in all Im fairly impressed. She did have more misses than hits but that was mostly down to that mad hour at 10 because after that she only had 5 in 8 hours. And from this morning when she was telling me as she went by bedtime she was getting the slightest of pre warning. And though she seems to wee loads like 20-40 mins or so at times she had two long dry stretches of 2 hours in the day

So to be honest im pretty proud of her. Ive promised to buy her some Buzz pull ups tommorrow for going out or for naps. Ive told her she can have 2 magic stars for each wee and if she does 5 and i mark the stars on her chart for her to count she can have a freddo and ive told her if she gets to the point of being dry all day i will buy her a toy and she said she wants a timmy time playset. Im anticipating this being a couple weeks away yet so neils gonna get it for her.

Sorry im waflfing im kinda blogging it here so when im getting discouraged later on down the line i can see how far we have come

Day 2

5-2 in favour of the potty. A wee on waking then took her at 930 and she went though she protested and tried to jump off the loo halfway. At 11 she asked me! And went though again tried to get off part way through. She did then have a wee in her pull up but im not convinced id class it as a accident as Id put it on her for lunch because she was getting grumpy. She then had a nap and woke dry. She didnt wanna go when she got up so took her to my sisters house while i took awen for her scan. My sis said she seems to be holding it in because she kept refusing to go even though she was jigging up and fdown on the spot so my sis put a pull up on her and she promtply did LOADS. She just didnt wanna do it there i guess. Once we got home she asked me and i said she would have to use potty as was bfing. 20 minslater she was still jigging and said she had belly ache so i took her to toilet and she went. The at 6 while i was bathing awen she asked her dad and he took her and she went.

So shes had twice as many successes as accidents, asked me herself without being prompted 3 times AND seems to be developing bladder control. I think shes been a star today And so it begins 270211

PostSubject: Re: And so it begins   And so it begins EmptyThu Jun 02, 2011 6:54 am

Day 3

7 wees today, 1 in potty and 6 in toilet and 1 poo in toilet. Other two were done in her pull ups while we were out so basically dry indoors all day. And with the exeption of the very first one of the day where i promted her, shes asked me for a wee all day I havent had to remind her once. She also can now ask and calmly walk up the stairs, pull down her pants and climb onto loo with less urgency than when we started monday.

The only sticky point we have had in last couple days has been when shes gearig for a nap. Today for example she asked to go then sat down but didnt wanna let it go so dribbled a drop then jumped back up asking for a pull up. Took a lot of persuading to get her sat back down and distract her long enough to do a wee but it was only a tiny wee and she got abit upset about it and when i put a pull up on her afterand took her out in buggy to get her to have a nap she weed in pull up again anyway. For whatever reason when shes tired she doesnt wanna wee except in a pull up. Not sure quite what to do, i dont wanna have to sit in front of her trying to keep her on loo long enough to go when shes upset and think maybe for that one point of the day put a pull up on so she can go in peace then have her nap cos when she wakes from that she is ready to go on toilet again. Today i almst felt like i was coercing her and dont wanna do that. Im sure once shes used to it she wont worry about it so much.

However shes making great progress cos at bedtime i put her to bed and 5 mins later she shouted for me and when i went in her room she said mummy i need a wee wee and it wasnt until i explained it was ok to go in her nappy at night she relaxed and went to sleep.

Sorry if im annoying anyone with daily updates im just hoping for some advice if anyone else has come across the tiredness and refusing thing and im keeping a blog of the first week to look back at later

Fantastic progress by Lil C Very Happy

I would let the pre-nap thing go for now and put the pull up on. I suspect tiredness is playing a big part in it and it will come with time.

And so it begins _
PostSubject: Re: And so it begins   And so it begins EmptyThu Jun 02, 2011 8:20 am

Thanks

Well so far the things ive worked out that are helping are

-She wont wee on the potty. Im keeping it downstairs and trying for when im feeding etc but shes not keen. Toilet however is great. Shes got the ladder seat but ive also ordered a buzz lightyear seat topper and she already ha a step stool so will probably put those in bathroom and leave ladder seat in car for trips to grandparents. Ive also ordered a folding one for days out once we start doing going out in proper pants.

-Stickers seem to be the best reward. Shes been having 2 magic stars and a red chart sticker per wee with a freddo once she gets to 5 but shes mostly happy with sticker so ive told her from tommorrow its a sticker only not magic stars as well but still the freddo for 5 for rst of this week. She also gets most excited about sticking it on the chart herself. We are gonna get some more stickers tommorrow. I also rewarded her with a Buzz sticker for her potty for asking me herself today without being prompted and ive got some other toy story themed ones for later on so i can start withdrawing the freddos next week. Shes also been promised a toy for when she has a run of dry days (ive not decided a figure yet as i dont wanna pressure any of us so it will just be an ad hoc surprise) and shes selected a timmy time toy she keeps on and on about having when 'my is potty trained'

-Shes worked out the difference between pants and pull ups and knows she can wee in a pull up but not her pants so im trying to reserve pull ups for going out (for now) and the pre nap meltdown for now. Her pull ups are now her Buzz huggies, all her pampers easy ups are going away unless needed for awen (though ive got em in casies anyway) as we have 3 packs of pull ups in buzz/disney for her. That will bhe handy once we start braving going out cos she hates peeing in her big girl cotton pants so im hoping once shes settled at home to just start putting her big girl pants on her and hopefully she will ask when we are out (though planning on carrying a change of clothes for some time to come)

-As shes nakey bum all day shes just in tshirt and pants/commando i was worried about her being warm enough then remembered her baby legs and dug those out so today shes been in tshirt, pants, aby legs and socks and seems quite cosy in that little lot

-Distraction seems to be essential to keep her still long enough for gravity o kick in and since theres only so many times i can read the same story our loo now looks like a library. Im a bog reader anyway so im not surprised shes picked that up lol. Ive also put in a chair for me cos i was having to sit on floor before. Theres also a pile of tag junior books by her potty though shes not using the potty for wees just a place to catch up n her reading

-Wetwipes. Ive invested in some cheap ones as im not using pampers sensitive to wipe down the carpet, the edge of the loo seat and anything else that gets splattered and ive also popped a pack of cheapies on the back of the loo for bum wiping purposes. Just using pampers for bedtime changes and awen now

-Being more prepared. Now have some nappies/wipes/nappy bin downstairs in daytime so i can change awen near to C without having to leave her in sittingroom and go upstairs as seems to be when the need strikes!

Oh and Buzz and Bedtime Bunny are aparently potty training too. Im not sure of ther success rates though, C is overseeing that

Day 4

Wow

Excellent start with 2 wees. Went to town to buy some bits and got a variety of stickers including Buzz Lightyear stickers for her reward chart and some toys from poundland (Buzz Buzz and more buzz) for rewards. Went to star bucks for a coffee and on the off chance took her to the loo, her pull up was dry so sather on loo and she peed, after town went to tesco and she went on the loo there and got home still dry. Gave her one of her toys as a reward for staying dry in town. She then stayed dry all afternoon including a trip to the park and asked everytime she wanted to go. Then at 530pm she was playing and distracted and by the time she realised and jumped up had already gone so had an accident. Bless her she got very upset and while neil was cleaning carpet tried to put herself on the naughty step so went and retreived her and explained mummy and daddy would never tell her off for an accident and we were very proud of her for being such a big clever girl and not to worry. She was fine after that and just before bed used the toilet again.

Good day today Smile

Day 5

Dry virtually all day with wee and poo in toilet and her asking me for toilet as she needed it. Nearly wet herself midday but realised she needed to go at last minute and got her to loo with teensiest dribble in pants. Then at 530 she asked Neil to take her but he finished setting the timer for dinner on his phone first and by the time they got there she had wet her pull up. Ive told him when she asks at the moment he needs to drop what hes doing cos she cant wait like that. Otherwise i think she would have had a dry day so fingers crossed for tommorrow. She did drive me nuts at 730 for 1st wee of day asi took her, she didnt go so we went back to my bed to lie down for a cuddle and second my head hit pillow she asked for a wee, didnt go....im sure you see where this is heading. Took 6 back and forths before she weed. Still aside from a minor screaming fit into a pillow after trip 4 i stayed as patient as humanly possible.

She got rewarded with a buzz lightyear picture with some stickers and crayons tonight (poundland) and was very excited about putting her stickers on potty.

And just now shes been in bed an hour and woken up and shouted me for a wee wee. She didnt manage to go so have popped a pull up rather than a nappy on outof curiosity

Day 6

Another virtually dry day, shes asked for or been taken and gone successfully all day with 1 exception. After her nap she woke up and started to dribble slightly but she shouted she needed to go and held the rest in til i got her upstairs so im pretty much counting that as a dry day.

She has been using it to seek attention though which has been hard work. She was doing the ask to go, not go then ask again once i got into bed this morning and once i gave in and went downstairs it stopped so it was to get me out of bed and then she was doing same while i was trying to watch ER this afternoon til i told her if she asked again she had to stay downstairs and go on potty. Felt bad getting snappy at her but poor Awen had been left on her own for ages while i trekked up and down the stairs.

Once thats under control though i think we are doing great, she asked to go while at corner shop and i told her there was nowhere to take her so to go in pull up and once i got us to loo five mins later she was still dry so she held it in til i could take her. And she was dry this morning after a full night so will be checking with interest in the morning

Day 7. (Last post)

Woke at 5am for milk and had a wee. Nappy not dry like yesterday but only 1 wee in it. For rest of day she had 1 accident in pull up becuse she was watching tv and distracted by being around my family and she wouldnt go to loo with anyone but me so i guess its a slightly off day but after how shes done this week i can hardly begrudge her that.
