Its Jacks 2nd birthday the end of this month, im not the baest at baking but over here in Denmark you just cant buy anything ready made from the shop.

Anyone have any basic sponge cake recipes?

you basically need equal amounts of butter, caster sugar, eggs and flour. I use 250g and 4 large eggs for an 8" tin.
Cream the butter and sugar really well and add a teaspoon of vanilla extract. Mix in the eggs one by one then add the sieved flour. You can use either self raising or plain flour with 2 teaspoons of baking powder. Transfer to a lined or greased cake tin and bake in a hot oven at 150c for 35 mins or until cooked.

I would say keep it simple, a simple design done really well looks far better than a complex one done badly. Maybe see if you can get some toppers of his favourite characters. Also look at google images for ideas, do a search on something like cbeebies cake x

Well i have a simple round sponge cake in the oven as we speak! will try and decorate it into a kind of football!
