Milo has developed a really nasty habit of screeching/screaming if he doesn't get his own way, or if you have to take something away from him, or he has to wait for something etc,,sure you get the idea! It's a really really loud, ear piercing scream, sometimes it's just the one shriek but more often than not it goes on and on.

I'm not helping as i just started picking him up to get him to shut up (even if i can bear the noise, we have a fussy neighbour on one side (we're in a terraced house) and I worry he's going to get angry) but I really need to get out of the habit. Do you reckon f I just put him down in a safe room and walk away from him, he'll get the idea that screeching doesn't work? Or are there any better ways before I either lose my mind or the neighbour sends his dog round to eat us?

TBH I'd sod the neighbour and just ignore him...the sooner her learns it doesn't get your attention then the sooner he will stop doing it...

id just ignore him when he does it hun, turn away, walk away...stuff the neighbours!!!lol, im sure its probibly just a phase and wont last long, im sure he will soon get the point that it doesnt get attention and stop doing it xx

It's stupid, cos I know if I give him attention it's never going to end.. on the other hand, the neighbours dog is really reaallllly big Hopefully the dog's more scared of Milo than I am of the dog!

Caitlin is doing the exact same atm! Its deafening! Im starting to try and ignore her - easier said than done. Usually she starts and gets told once that she needs to calm down/given explanation why not to do something and then I totally ignore. I dont put her in dif room I just give her no eye contact, if she trys to climb on me I put my arm out to block her, talk calmly to Stuart over her head, get up make myself a drink... you get the idea. Generally she does scream on for about 5-10min and starts crying (feels like an hr) and eventually trys to get a hug.

I know some people dont agree but once I see her calming I generally lift her for a cuddle and stroke her back, repeating to her that she was being very silly and the reason why I told her off/to do something. Sometimes I think Caitlin gets so worked up she doesnt know how to calm herself down and needs a little help. Once she totally calm I distract her with a toy/book.

We went through the same thing and like any other type of tantrum I just ignore it and walk away - Believe me once you start it doesn't last long for them to get the message - consistency is the key though
