| So according to the new study, people prefer spoilers before watching/reading something new because the tension actually detracts from our enjoyment... - People like it when they don't have to worry about the death of a protagonist, or the fate of lovers in a romantic comedy - It's all about the "narrative journey," not the "final destination" - We don't like it when we're fooled by a surprise…we often feel "embarrassed by our gullibility"
Do you prefer to be spoiled before watching a film/reading a book or do you not like to know anything?
Personally i'm all for spoilers. I'm impatient and hate waiting to know how things are going to work out. I'll admit sometimes it can ruin a book/film but mostly i like knowing what i'm waiting for. |

| Nooooooo!!!!! You can't beat it when you are reading a book or watching a film and something totally unexpected happens! There are some films that i think would not even be worth watching if you knew the outcome, for example thrillers or films like the Sixth Sense. |

| I quite like spoilers but more because I'm impatient than anything else. I don't really want big ones though. I just want enough to give me some info but not let me know what happens |

| Yeah i think the big big ones you shouldn't know like Sixth Sense. I agree Liberty just enough to give info without completely ruining it. |

| i read the first chapter of a book and then the last page, then read the rest, i cant wait
i like to know a story before i watch something, but with lord of the rings, i didnt know the story and actually thoguht alot more of the characters died, so i was waiting for that all the way through, lol certainly made it entertaining for me.
i hate cliffhangers, especially at the end of a series and cant wait for the next to start |

| I'm terrible if matts seen a film that i haven't, I'll keep bugging him to tell me what happens. I'm very impatient. I'm also really stupid when it comes to guessing what's going to happen, if there's a twist I guarantee I won't have guessed it, whereas Matt has usually figured out the whole plot within 10 minutes. |

| I like to know a bit about what it's going to be about but can't be doing with the end being spoiled for me.
Like with Sixth Sense, my friend told me "It's about a boy with a special power but I can't tell you any more without spoiling it" and all the way through I was so engrossed with the story, then the big hit came and I was like NOOOO WAAAYYYY!! I loved it!
I love when you absolutely can't put a book down because you just HAVE to know what happens next.
I love Jonathan Creek cos we will be guessing all the way through. There was this one episode where I sussed the answer out within about 5 minutes but I was still engrossed cos I just had to see if I was wright or not! |
