| lucas had his 6-8 wk check today, even though he is 12 weeks old. anyway all ok apart from his skull shape, its flat at the back in one spot. the doctor as referred him to paediatrician, for an appointment in 3 months i've got to keep moving his head when hes resting, just tried and he woke up... hes not lying on his belly, fingers in his mouth talking to his toys but she think its because he sleeps through 7 to 7 and as done since birth... (i'm a very lucky mommy) but of course i've just checked google and its common now adays because we sleep babies on their backs, but there could be a growth issue, which may require an operation and its linked to developmental delay...(i've read that and just brokeinto tears, i've really realised this summer holidays how much rich is effected by his issues and wouldnt want it to effect anyone. but she said that hes got his head beautifully and any big issues are linked to poor neck muscles, which lucas doesnt have. shes told me not to worry and just keep moving him but i cant wait for russ to come home for a hug does anyone else have experience of this |

| Oh Hun I hope it's nothing more than a precaution, Unfortunatly google is a bad thing in these circumstances! I'd take the it's very common comment over anything else, until you see the consultant just do as you've been advised and I'm sure all will be fine!
Big hugs to you and Lucas x |

| I wouldnt worry! Izzy had a VERY flat bit on the side of her swede! I got a special baby pillow and she now has a perfect head - just try to keep him off it as much as possible - I never saw a specialist, just did what suggestions I found online
Have you looked at something like this http://www.babyreflux.co.uk/products/Theraline-Baby-Pillow-for-Plagiocephaly.html |

| please try not to worry, i was going to send that link that lisa had. we didn't have any issues with elijah's head (we let him sleep on his side when we were up - of course we got into trouble for that instead!) but he did have very weak neck muscles which eventually caught up. i hope you manage to stay away from google and don't worry too much - if they were seriously concerned i would imagine that they wouldn't want to leave it 3 months |

| I think wriggler (Vickie) had a similar thing happen to Andrew. Might be worth PM'ing her? I hope you're ok though as even though we can reassure you I know you'll be upset so |

| yep we had the same with Tyler hun - add to that the language barrier. I got told by my pediatrician that if Tyler didn't sort his muscles out he could become disabled. all she said to me was to do tummy time 3 times a day for 5 minutes a time and increase the time.
she said if he's asleep in his car seat or wherever, to move his head to the other side. we also got a sleep positioner so we could sleep him on his side and after feeds would turn him over or if he was sleeping through the night just alternate the side he sleeps on each nap time.
erm... Tyler had a REALLY flat head but doing the above really helped. 3 months is ages for it to sort itself out, if it was serious they would have him checked straight away.
the best way to cure it is to keep him up off the back of his head as much as you can
I know it's easier said than done but please try not to worry as it is very very common.
If you really are worried, a friend of mine who had the same problem took her little boy to a cranial osteopath and I think they sorted it out in a couple of visits x |

| thanks hun, russ is home and hes done some research on it and he says its easy to sort out and not to worry,
how lovely of the doc to say that to you, just what a mom needs to know.
i'm gettting angry about the fact we could have found this out 6 weeks ago when he should have gone for his check, but now we know im on the case and we brought a bumbo other day, so that will help too. |

| Right hun, personally I think that Dr is a fecking idiot for putting the fear of god into you!!! My nephew had severe Plagiocephaly when he was born and also Torticollis (shortened neck muscles in one side) and his head was out at one said by 27mm! This was a very very bad case and he had to wear a Starband Helmet for 3 months which had to be funded by my sister as they don't provide them on the NHS.....but the NHS said it was something that was cosmetic and they wouldn't have done anything!
However, he now has a perfectly round shaped head! I would deffo say try one of those pillows like Lisa said and also sleepcurve mattresses have also proven to be very valuable and also if you find he is tending to lean to one side, try and encourage him to go to the other side.....but honestly if you need anymore information just let me know and I can ask my sister for you.
Hope this helps xx |

| thanks hun, i've took your example from your photos of lo and put him on the floor with just the tv on so hes got to look in one direction and tomorrow i'll do the other.
im actually being brave and put him on his changing mat with no nappy on, hes loving it, kicking legs everywhere.
thanks for the advice we going to buy one of those pillows that lisa put the link to, and just see how he goes. |

| My friends little boy is a little older than Lily and he has always had quite a prominent flat head on one side.
The doctor has checked it over and is completely happy with it and isnt worried about it at all.
Your doctor has probably jumped the gun a bit discussing operations, etc. xx |

| Hun Archie was under the hospital when he was a baby for the exact same thing, they thought he may have major problems and wanted to keep and eye on him in case his skull fused before it should, but he was discharged at 1 year. He had absolutely no problems at all and although he still has a flat head at the back, he is a normal, happy healthy and very intelligent 5 year old xxx |

| Clare this is really common now, the head almost misshapes.. My friends son has a really odd shaped head almost square, he spent a lot of time in his car seat as had bad belly aches after milk and the only comfort was sat upright in the car seat. All you can do is give him lots of mat/floor time, don't leave him in his chair for long periods of time and car seats also. Once he is sitting up alone or leant into something like a beanbag it will start to change, and likelihood is within 3 months he'll be almost sitting if not already and t will not be a problem. The beanbag worked well for me, with all 3. Or the Galt rings play nest or whatever, then onto a bumbo when he's more sturdy. He isn't left laying on his back all day so can't see you having any problems. Will he sleep on his side, perhaps during the day you can change him onto opposite sides each nap perhaps. Mine all slept on their side from day one |

| It is common hon and everyones given lots of good advice about the pillows and tummy time. I always slept C on her left for reflux so tried to ensure she spent time on my knee with me supporting her chin/on tummy/in bumbo, just anything for pressure relief really and it all works. Awen i dont have a probs with cos she tummy sleeps but stay away from google! xxx |

| thanks ladies,
i've had him on his side on the mat all day and removed toys from above him and put them on sides, so hes got to turn his head,
even in his bouncer, which he goes in once a day while we eat tea he is placed so he has to move his neck to a side to watch the tv.
we looking at buying a pillow and i put him on side for his naps today.
we brought a bumbo and hes ok in that for 5 mins, and i got him perched on cushions too.
thanks ladies xx |
