PostSubject: Fear   Fear EmptyTue Aug 23, 2011 2:11 am

Jack has started to fear things, eg he keep saying mum the a monster/tigger its to scary and clinging on to me for dear life! He was fine at pre school for the first week but the past couple of times screamed when i left. He didnt go today as we both have colds but all day out of the blue he's been saying not going school mum, too scary and getting upset!

Is it a fase? Im dredding dropping him off each day now.

Oliver's not at school at the mo (6wks jollies) but he's going through a similar phase of being 'scared' of things. I put it down to me being in hospital etc and him seeing me 'ill' as thats when he seemed to get uber clingy/cuddly. He seems to do it more with me than his daddy.

At the moment i'm trying not to make a huge deal of it and just offer reassurance and distract him with something else quickly which seems to be working.

You could maybe try distracting him with 'you draw mummy and lovely pic/painting' when you drop him off..and try not to make a fuss if he gets upset/scared - just give him a squeeze and reassure him you'll be back to see his painting Smile

I'm hoping it's a phase as Amelia has been saying lots of things are "too scarey" for the last few months. She seems to do it when it means doing something she doesn't really want to do and when it means going out of my sight, such as going to get something from the kitchen. I just say "it's not scarey darling, Mummy will show you" and then we just do whatever it was together. Fingers crossed they grow out of it quick smart! x

Izzy says it sometimes ... although she doesn't mean it!
She say's she is scared of the plug cos thinks 'he's going to eat me' ....but then is poking her fingers in there
Or will run in and cling to my leg and say 'scared... bug on bucket' but she literally drags me out to see it (why is there always an earwig on her bucket?!)

It sounds like his is genuine dislike/fear though if he actually gets upset - have you asked him exactly what it is that he is frightened of?
