I have some people for dinner on Saturday evening and am lacking inspiration of what to cook. There's going to be 8 adults. Spicy food is out as is shellfish. I'm not too worried about pudding as I have some ideas for that
What would you cook or what is your favourite food x

If it is informal i try and do something that can be prepared mainly in advance so that i am not stuck in the kitchen for hours while people are here! For a starter i sometimes do smoked salmon and cream cheese blinis which are dead easy or pate with nice bread and onion chutney. Main I would usually do a big curry/paella/coq au vin type dish that can be left on the heat and served up easily.

I also ply people with lots of booze so by the time the food comes out it all tastes ace Very Happy

When I went to a dinner party they made:-

Starter - Bruschetta
Main - Seabass with Cous Cous and Oven Roasted Vegetables
Pudding - Raspberry Cheesecake with a Fruit Coulis

Failing that I don't think you can ever go wrong with a good Spag Bol and Garlic Bread xx

beef roasted and cut into think slices served on three large butter fried
mushrooms with asparagus on very top - all drizzled with hollandaise sauce.
A dollop of potato and leek mash along side the beef.

google found me that ,,,

i personally would prob do a lasagne or a curry but thats as i like simplicity and no stress Smile

I'm quite happy to be stuck in the kitchen, one of their husbands is a complete nobhead so I'll be glad to have an excuse! Thanks for the ideas ladies, I like the idea of pate or something like that to start that i can prepare in advance, for pudding I'm doing poached pears in caramel sauce and either a sticky toffee or bread and butter pudding. Just need to decide on a main. Might see what's on offer at tesco Very Happy

oooh I like the sound of the beef & mushrooms .... I dont know what hollandaise sauce tastes like but? Dont think ive ever had it.

A local place I know does a lovely dish with strips of beef, peperroni maybe, peppers, onions, mushrooms in a peppercorn (I think lol) sauce. I usually get it with criss cross fries but im sure it would be nice with rice. Oh im so hungry now. I wonder if Caitlin is tame enough to risk taking to there yet lol?

I love stroganoff and do it quite often. Serve with rice or little roast potatoes. Or how about a risotto?

For starters I love home made pate. Or blackpudding and scallops.

I love dinner parties x
