what are you dining on ?

after much talk it is decided that my 2 older are going away again on xmas day at some point in the day so i have decided i will not be stuck in the kitchen for long and pretty much want to be free on xmas eve too Smile i want to spend as much time with them as possible so i am cheating Smile
just been to tescos and bought a tescos finest turkey joint with some kind of stuffing ( cannot remember now ) and a ham joint both ready to stick in oven Smile , frozen honey parsnips, piggies in blankets ,,,pots and other veg ill do fresh Smile
bought a tescs finest strawberries and cream tart and tescos finest millionaire dessert so they can choose on day what they want or a bit of both Smile
we were going to miss out starter as none of us would be fit to eat 3 courses but have opted for OH and i to have melon and parma ham and kids to have melon and some berries , a bit lighter for us and easy as i would generally make 2 different starters
i know its mega cheating and not very adventurous but im more interested in spending the time with my kids before they go , so much so we nearly phoned the chinese to see if it was gonna be open lol

so whats your meal plan if you are cooking it ? xx

LOL! I am totally for the Chinese! But..since I know they won't be open...will do the regular traditional dinner..but on Boxing day. Turkey..stuffing..mash..cranberries..candied yams..brussel sprouts, and fresh buns. Make lots for left overs and turkey sandwiches to feed us all for the next week! LOL Xmas day, we do a brunch, usually eggs benedict with hash browns and fruit plates. Nibble all day as I usually have cheese/sausage platters, veg platters, and of course the cocktail shrimp platters. xxx

Michelle, I think it sounds great what you're doing and be more than happy to be part of your Christmas dinner.

I used to to do everything from scratch (bar kill the turkey) but I'd be all day in the kitchen Christmas eve, Christmas day and boxing day, clearing up (even with two dishwashers on). 3 years ago I thought *$%£ it!! I'm going out!

So this year I'm having, scallops and blackpudding to start. Fillet steak for main and melt in the middle chocolate pudding for dessert, washed down with champagne and red wine and then home to a tidy house Smile

Haha yes I'd also do Chinese if it was open!

We dont do starters as wouldnt be fit to enjoy main.

We are cheating this year, actually we cheat every year. My mum cooks a turkey crown, a ham, sausages with bacon and some stuffing on xmas eve. She then gives us some with our presents on xmas morning and I take them home to reheat at dinner time. MIL also sends us carrot & parsnip mash and some more stuffing (everyone prefers their own mums stuffing Smile )... which means all I have to do is put aunt bessies roast potatoes & parsnips in oven and microwave some tesco finest mash! Very Happy Turns out lovely every year and takes me 35 min to prepare Laughing

Dessert i'l prob buy some profiteroles and choc sauce and serve with ben & jerrys! Very Happy
