Turning heating on/lights when? _
PostSubject: Turning heating on/lights when?   Turning heating on/lights when? EmptySat Sep 03, 2011 2:07 am

I think this year we had heating on right up until April/May or something ridiculous (Our summer was non existent this year!). I have had it on for an hr or 2 a cpl of times in the last few weeks but generally house becomes roasting and end up turning it off.

Ideally id like to hold off until October before I set the clock for everyday but even the slightest chill and I want to put it on. I love having lamps on late afternoon and heating going... makes me feel all cosy while dinner cooking, but it is so expensive. Apparently electric going up 20% too.

When do you all put it on? Are you strict and keep it off until a certain month?

We have had the heating on here and there for the last few weeks as it has been really cold. Yesterday and today has been lush! Really warm and sunny so no need for it on yet. OH has turned the hot water down so the radiators and water don't get so hot but still hot enough and it has dropped our bills down form £200ish a month to just over £100 Very Happy

Ive not had it on yet - I have the water on for 2 hours AM and 2 hours PM and for some reason that heats the bedroom radiators upstairs too - so actually in the morning and evening our bedrooms are ok! I have a little leccy heater in my sewing/office room so I just use that if it gets a bit chilly at night

I hate having the heating on and never used to put it on at all. I prefer to snuggle. Oh would sometimes put it on. We had to have it on last winter because of Jamie (and it was on pretty much all the time to keep our flat at 18) so I suspect once it starts to get a big colder we'll have to put it on again

We've only had heating on once in this house (we moved in feb) just to try it all out. We're really tight with heating and lights. We try to hold off heating till November time if we can and turn if off as soon as we can in Feb. Normally we have duvet out at night to cuddle with. This house actually seems to stay quite warm so i'm hoping it won't be too much to heat. I hate spending money on gas/electric.

Liberty how can you hate having the heating on Shocked ? I just love being cosy! I take it to extremes but. Last winter during the snow I was walking round the house in a t-shirt I had it on that much Laughing Our radiators are really old though and seem to be on or off so cant adjust the temp, plus we in a bungalow so loses heat fast.

We have a leccy fire in living room that blows hot air but tend not to use it - 1st winter I lived here I had it on way to much and our bill was horrendous!

Michelle I cant believe you've had it on only once! I think our house must be a cold house, we have tiled floors even in bedrooms. I hate spending money on heating too - but I hate being cold more!!!

I have low thyroid which means I feel the cold easily, so I tend to want the house to be quite warm. I don't hold out for a specific date, just go by how cold it feels. We are now on an Economy Drive though, so I am telling myself to be green: put on extra layers before the heating. Open curtains / windows when it's warmer outside to let it in, and close curtains before dusk to keep the heat in.

We havent had ours on since early april, we did have it on 24 hours a day during last winter though as like you Snoops we live in a bunaglow and they do lose the heat quicker. The water goes on for 4 hours a day and that stays hot until it comes back on again. We have been having a lamp on in the lounge for the last couple of weeks in the evenings as its getting dark that much earlier.

Our gas and electric has been increased to £137 a month so we're trying to get that reduced.

i put it on when i feel cold enough Laughing had it on the first time in months a couple of nights ago just for half an hour as elijah was having a bath. our bathroom is an extension and its sooooooo f*cking cold in there and uninsulated.

one of the main memories of my childhood was feeling cold, i always remember being freezing especially at night and i refuse to have that kind of nonsense now im old enough!
