PostSubject: take a dummy just in case??   take a dummy just in case?? EmptyMon Sep 05, 2011 3:59 am

ok Tylers now been dummy free for 1 week (only having it for naps) apart from when he's at nursery... Ive been sending a dummy in his bag with him just in case he needed it but every day they have given it to him saying he wanted it... Im pretty sure that he wasn't inconsolabley crying for it and was just wanting it because other kids have it.

So, do I risk not sending one in and hoping that he is ok or send one in and put up with them giving it to him because it's "esaier" for them (the owner is quite a softy!)

I wouldn't give them one, sounds like they're just giving it to him and taking the easy way out. If he really is inconsolable, they can call you can't they? I doubt it will come to that.

nah dont put it in. when I decided not to give hannah it I just said to the nursery I didnt want her to have it. its their job to support you. thats what you pay them for. also will make your life a whole lot easier if you have that support instead of you dealing with the screaming but them having an easy time of it.

do you know what they said to me today... if I don't put one in then he needs to know I'm not doing it so that Tyler doesn't think it's just them not giving it to him... wtf?

so it's ok for him to think I'm horrible mummy taking it off him but they are nice nursery teachers who give in tot him when he so much as whimpers?

grrrr

Does he not have a nap at nursery then?

I'm surprised about this because imogen's nursery are quite anti-dummy and when she gets there theyve got her so trained that she takes it out of her mouth and puts it in a box then doesn't think about it till nap time. Sometimes she even has a nap without it! At home it's a different story - she will turn the house upside down looking for it if we take it away!

I think if tyler's been ok at home a week then the next step has to be leaving them behind from nursery. There doesn't seem to be any half measures here so just go for it and see what happens xx

I ended up putting it in his bag BUT he was so good and didn't ask for it so that's it. I know he can do it so it's not going at all Very Happy

They are a bit soft at this nursery - which is better than how they were at Tylers old nursery but I wish I hadn't let him slip into having his dummy all the time.

EmVar no he doesn't nap at nursery it's far too exciting for him to nap there Smile

from my experiences working in nurseries if a child wants a dummy and hasnt got 1 in their bag they always have spares and will give 1 anyway

(some places i worked in even gave them 2 children when they didnt even have a dummy at home)

I know outrageous aint it I was well disgusted and needless to say i didnt work there 4 long they were all wrong with a lot of their practices It was gr8 fun when mums turned up early and some1 had 2 whip the dummy out quick or just b4 home time the dummy would have 2 be taken away then ur left with a crying baby/toddler when parents come to collect all wrong it was terrible place

yeh I decided not to send it today and she said well we do have spare dummies if he's really upset, I think the probelm with Tyler was that he knew his dummy was kept in his bag so he only had to point at it and whine and they gave it to him.

as he didn't have it yesterday Im sure he won't ask for it today I even told him he was a big boy and didn't need a dummy and he agreed lol.
