getting rid of dummy help? _
PostSubject: getting rid of dummy help?   getting rid of dummy help? EmptyTue Mar 15, 2011 7:29 pm

Tyler is waking up all night because he's "lost" his dummy (sometimes it's actually rigth next to him he's just too alzy to look Evil or Very Mad )
So I figured that's it lets try get rid of them.

He sleeps with his dummy, and goes down for naps with it.. and sometimes has it in the day if he's upset.. and at nursery too if he's upset.
Do I just take it off him? jsut see what happens? eeeek Im terrified lol I can't handle being up all night.... mind i am up all night anyway!
any tips or advice??
thanks Smile

I have no idea tbh hun - Thomas is STILL the same as Tyler - too blummin lazy to find it Mad. He wakes me at least once a night to find it. Thankfully Hannah doesn't have one. I will be watching this thread to see what people suggest. If I took it away straight away he will not go to sleep - it would be a case of scream yourself to sleep which I would like to avoid. I was thinking maybe he could give it away to someone but I don't think he is quite old enough at the moment to understand that properly so maybe I will just put up with it till he can leave it for santa at christmas getting rid of dummy help? 548646 I am also in the middle of potty training him so I don't want to change too much in his life until that is sorted - could be a while yet before I get rid of it Rolling Eyes

yeah I dont think Tyler would sleep without his dummy either... the past week he's been ok going to bed at 7.. sleep till abouit 11 then lost dummy, same at 1, 4, 5 and 6 then he won't go back to sleep :/

and no like you say Tyler wouldn't understand giving it up himself... I dont mind him having it other than waking up al night... I put two in his cot last night but he rolls around os much they end up underneath him. If it wasn't dangerous I would tie on on to the cot bars and dangle it down so he cant lose it lol

What I do with Thomas (not 100% fool proof but did help) is give him one dummy and put another 2-3 under his pillow then show him where dummy lives. When he gets up teach him to 'put dummy to bed' under the pillow and say night night etc. Then when he goes to bed 'wake dummy up'. He will start to associate under the pillow with dummy and hopefully stick an arm under there for a new one if he loses it in the night. Plus the more dummys you put in with him - the more chance you have of him finding one.

Another idea is to sew dummys onto the corners of a thin blanky? and show him they are there - a blanky is much easier to find and he would just have to find a corner to find dummy?
