hi

my little boy will be 2 in december and he does not really say much, he can say:

dada (first word Rolling Eyes )
diddy (dummy)
juice
livvy (sister)
no
hank ku (thank you!!)

i feel he is behind with his speech as my daughter was saying alot more at his age and her babble was a lot more decipherable! (sp) i guess im just looking to see if boys speech is slower to start or if you think i should speak to HV?
thanks for reading

Tyler will be 2 in 2 weeks (ARGH) and he has only recently started to say things (because we removed his dummy!)

there's lots of babies similar age to yours that aren't yet talking and I think it's quite common in boys and even more common for younger siblings to be quieter as they have an older sibling to talk for them.

You can mention it at the 2 year check but I think before then they wouldnt be concerned anyway as long as he can understand what you are saying etc.

E is two and half and is starting to say a lot more only two word sentences at the moment though. I think they say as long as they understand. Might be worth keeping a note of what he can say to track his progress. When we went to a speech drop in they said come back in 6 months if nothing has changed but she's saying a lot more she's just been a bit slow on speech. She's very fast on her feet so I suspect her not sitting hasn't helped. All kids are different though x

I think alfie is more or less same age as your lo give or take a few months (he's 2 in april omg!). I was worried about his speech but apparently the average is only 2-5 words before the age of 2 so i think your lo is doing great. Alfie can say:mamma, dadda, bye, ball,no and car. He's a little sponge at the minute and is starting to pick up on everything you say! I agree with jade tho-i try and keep his dummy use to a minimum and i think it help x

I had the same worries this time last year about my son who was 2 last December. He was only saying 5-6 words. Then suddenly February of this year he was talking it was over night and we were just amazed at how many words he did know.

Don't worry though he'll talk when he is good and ready

Harry's two month and I can have a full conversation with him!! So I don't think its boys I just think every child develops differently, its nothing your doing wrong and I'm doing right so I wouldn't worry about it. Enjoy the peace!! Razz

Seriously though I know its worrying but thats our jobs as mums to worry, by his 2nd bday he will be a little chatterbox or not long after. I don't think its anything to worry about until they're closer to 3 and haven;t said a word. Its a good thing that he was quite a few words already xx
