| Thinking about contraception, have no idea which to go for! Doctor has recommended depo injection, implant or coil. Don't mind putting on weight, but don't want anything that gives me mood swings Was considering the coil, but is it a bit scary?? How did you decide what one to have and did it work? Have any dodgy side effects? |

| i didnt want to go with the coil cos the whole 5 year thing scared me!
Dont fancy the depo injection because you have to go every month and i am absoloutly useless at remembering these things, i forget to pick up ditas prescription every month already....
So i went with the implant. It made me very mood for about 3 months, and emotional! But after that it's been great,no monthlys, only the odd one every say 3 months, no problems at all with it and it is quite clearly working lol x |

| I went for the vasectomy choice - no mood swings - don't get fat - no chance of accidents - no dodgy side effects - wasn't scary at all (for me ) - didn't hurt (me) a bit Seriously though I was always a little weirded out by all those options so stuck to the pill coz I'm a big wimp xx |

| I'm going with the mini pill i think. I don't like the thought of injections every month or 3months (however long it lasts) Guarenteed i'd forget and wind up pregnant again. Coil - i'm not really keen on something being shoved up there also i know someone who got pregnant altho they had a coil fitted so that worries me Implant - Kind of grosses me out having something under the skin and i've heard so many horror stories about moodiness and personality changes that it's put me off. So that only really left me with the mini pill cause I'm breastfeeding I can't have regular pill. |

| Just wanted to clarify the depo is every 3 months. I didn't fancy it myself just because if it didn't suit me it's a minimum of 3 months before it's out of your system, plus I'm so crap at getting my repeat prescription every month I would be bound to let my injection Lapse even though I work at the family planning clinic!
I didn't fancy IUD (copper coil) because it can make your periods worse and as you might have seen I struggle with PMS anyway. Although this is more hormonal than due to pain/heavy bleeding it would be one more thing to contend with. Don't be put off by how long it lasts because they can take it out and you regain your fertility straight away, at any time. Some people have one as emergency contraception then take it back out the following month.
I considered a Mirena (the hormone releasing coil) in the past but not wanting one just now as it's progestogen and I've just had my implant out, which is also progestogen, because I basically had no libido whatsoever.
I got on really well with the implant - no AFs, no PMT, for all the time I had it after maybe 2 months of having it in. However, I think it's just me that has no sex drive at all when using hormonal contraception, so we decided just to use condoms for a bit seeing as we want to ttc after Xmas.
If it was just down to me I'd have kept the implant in and had no AF and no libido, but unfortunately OH objects quite considerably to that idea!! |

| Im planning on the implant. I had the injection before and it made me a fatter psycho than I already am! The coil im just to shy to get, sounds stupid but I just dont fancy going to get it fitted I like the fact that (as far as iv heard) the implant is pretty similar hormones to the mini pill, which I was on between Caitlin and this pregnancy, and it didnt make me gain too much weight or be moody. Maybe iv just got used to being a whingey biatch but with pg hormones/lack of sleep since becoming a mum! Im not going back on mini pill simply as I dont trust myself to take it every day and I dont want another baby. Btw my return button seems to have broke in the last 10 min and its doing my head in!!!!! |

| I was going to get the coil but theres no doctor in any of the clinics in my area untill November and was told I had to come off the pill immediately becaus eof the probs in my pregnancies. COuld have had the mini pill but the remebering to take it on time thing scares me as I really cat get pregnant again.
I went to get the implant today but they do the depo first here to try and stop you bleeding beforehand so I'm currentyl on the depo. |

| Oh thats interesting kayleigh. Here they give you the mini pill for 4-6 weeks before they give you the implant for the same reason, to control bleeding. Id hate to have to get the injection in order to get implant! |

I had that for about a year, maybe more...no problems, no bad skin, no weight gain, periods stayed the same I know A LOT of ladies who have had BIG issues with the implant, both physically and mentally - for that reason I wouldn't even entertain it The coil can be removed when ever you like, I know lots of ladies who have had it and had it removed then got PG not long after I am not considering anything but if I needed to it would be the coil |
