Got my 1st paychecks! One is for the weeks training I did as a band 4 casual worker and the other a band 5 SW. The only thing is I appear to have been taxed loads!!!!
My code for casual worker is 0000T6 and for my main job now, the SW one BR 6.

When I handed contract in I didnt have p45/P60 but I completed another P type form to say I didnt have either and had been claiming IS previously.

My gross pay for SW was £950 and they deducted £177 tax, £34 NI and £60 to my pension fund... meaning my net pay was only £676. Is that right? £272 seems alot to deduct? Granted £60 was pension which im fine with.

For the other job which I only did the 24hrs one week my gross pay for the month was £251 and I got taxed £47, NI £26 and pension £12.50 again meaning they took £86 off me and only paid me a net of £164.90.

Who do I contact? My payroll or the local tax office??? When/how much can I claim back or is this just the amounts everyone pays?

Your paying emergency tax. Basically they havent given you your tax free allowance so everything you earn is being taxed. Phone your tax office and you should get it back in your next pay x

I agree with Kayleigh, ring your tax office as they'll be able to sort it quicker. You'll get a nice chunk of that back

P.46 form? should have been the form you filled in. But yes BR6 = Basic Rate and month 6 (april being the first month of the finical year)

Before you contact the tax office contact your HR department see if the form has been sent off. if it's not on your pay slip your going to need your PAYE ref number before phoning them. if it's not on the pay slip HR or the payroll dept can give you this. you'll need this to link you with them as a company for your tax to be correct

just so you know you'll be taxed and NI'd on the full £950 before any other deductions are taken off.

As far as I know I only filled it in when sent HR signed copy of my contract for the casual job... the SW job is same employer & my job is in the same place so I didnt think anything of the fact I didnt have to send it off again? Its the same girl in HR deals with it so guessing she didnt need it again... She never asked for one anyway

Your main job should give you full allowance and usually any second job takes at Emergency (no allowance) rate
I expect they just havent had a code back from the tax office, but they should have called before doing it...oh well hopefully sorted for you next time!
