Does anyone know how much sugar a baby's allowed? Yoghurt sees to have quite a lot in it

i don't know but i think it's a tooth decay issue (unless he is eating 20 a day in which case it might be a fat intake issue!!!) so if he has teeth make sure you are brushing them regularly...also the plum baby organic yogurts are relatively low in sugar but i agree petit filous etc are very high in sugar

another option which elijah loves is plain yogurt (we often get plain greek yogurt) with fruit or fruit puree Smile

Amelia has 3 or 4 yoghurts a day. Shes on a high calorie diet though and they were one of the things that the dietician reccomended. x

I dont pay any attention to how much sugar is in things because even fruit has sugar in so figured that as long as Tyler wasn't obese it didn't really matter.

Im sure my mum never paid attention to sugar and Im ok Very Happy

its only salt I try to limit, the sugar in petit filous is waht makes them so yummy NOM NOM lol.

I agree Jade...everything in moderation, so long as they get a good healthy balanced diet there shouldnt be too much of anything, sugar, or salt!

It would be easy to give them too much sugar with a poor diet, say for example fed on beans on toast and sweets too often!!

I've never counted what Izzy has, I don't add salt to food anyway, so no problem there, and she doesn't over eat anything sweet

Is beans on toast really a poor diet but? I disagree.

Baked beans are a good healthy source of protein and fibre and toast provided carbs. All in all a good meal low in fat and high in energy.

Its also a good source of vitamins, iron, folic acid etc... Im pretty sure at school we learnt that beans on toast made a healthy snack/meal. Im not saying feed kids it everyday but 1-2 a week. You can get reduced salt and sugar beans if you picky too.

Caitlin loves beans and toast, an tbh so do I with a big glass of cold milk. Its like comfort food! Very Happy

i AM quite picky and still give elijah beans on toast (yes, reduced salt/sugar Rolling Eyes) and with brown bread/unsalted butter i do think its fine....

anyway, definitely a moderation and balance issue, and keeping cleaning those toothypegs Very Happy

Thanks ladies. My new worry is bread anyway. Just realised how high it is in salt so need new things to send to nursery with him. TBH his dinners are fairly healthy and he has lots of fruit and veg so I know I don't really need to worry. Its only because I was going to send a yoghurt and a jelly into nursery and they both seemed quite sugary

lol beans are quite salty too, I remember getting them for Tyler when he was under 1 and half a tin was his whole daily intake of salt or summit haha but like Lisa said everything in moderation and you can't really go wrong!

Tyler has some smarties or biscuits every day but he also has loads of fruit and carbs and protein (not so much veg) so I dont worry - if he was only eating smarties and beans on toast then maybe that would be too much! Smile

I think it was just because it was grouped with sweets I thought you meant it was just as bad as giving a toddler sweets. I didnt mean to sound like I was having a go... Very Happy Id honestly never thought of beans on toast being something that you needed to have in moderation.

Caitlin prob eats too much bread, toast & fruit for brekkie due to her not taking milk so no cereal and then she loves ham sandwiches/beans or spaghetti on toast for lunch. I dont worry about it but.

Well isn't it sensible to have everything in moderation?
Too much of anything in a diet will mean, more than likely, they are lacking in something else that's required..isn't that why a good diet is called a balanced diet?!

Im so tempted to wind you up and argue back that no actually water doesnt need to be drank in moderation, generally its good to drink as much as you want. Fruit and veg its prob best to eat more of than moderate....

Also some people's definition of having things in moderation means once a week... but to some one else having chocolate in moderation could be a few squares every day!

Im just in a picky mood! Ignore me! I was on sleepover last night and am in arsey form! Laughing

It's really a good job you didn't Laughing people can and have died from too much water - the saying 'too much of a good thing' springs to mind

Ok now I've recovered, isn't it that you're supposed to watch how much sweet stuff they have early on so they don't develop a sweet tooth?

Yeh you remember that poor girl Leah Betts? - wasn't she the one whose photo of her on her knees was publicized as an anti drug thing...turned out it was the water that did it...of course she wouldn't have drunk it had it not been for the E in the first place...but its funny how it was never broadcast that it wasnt the actual pill that did it!

Yes I remember her! It was her 15th or 16th bday party I think? I knew that you could die of too much water from being on drugs... not sure where I learnt that info from but! Poor girl!

yeah if you drink too much water the cells in your body expand, and if they expand in your brain you do die but you have to drink ALOT of water, like so much that most people who weren't off their heads literally wouldn't be able to keep drinking after a certain point Laughing

perhaps you could die of eating too many beans if your teeth fell out and you became insanely dehydrated?
