Being under the consultant? _
PostSubject: Being under the consultant?   Being under the consultant? EmptySat Nov 12, 2011 7:13 pm

I'm too impatient to wait till my booking appt at the end of the month to find out!

I take thyroxine as after I had Imogen I developed thyroiditis, which is where you develop antibodies against your own thyroid glad (it controls metabolism amongst other things) The GP was great and said it often happens after pregnancy and sorts itself out again in a few months. No such luck, but at least on the thyroxine my levels are stable and when I asked about conception she said that my blood results were in the desired range and they would just be monitored closely and I would be under the consultant.

At the time that all seemed so far away I didn't need to ask any more, but now I want to know! Does it just mean I have more scans or will all my mw apps be at hospital instead of GP practice, or is it no different until D day or what? Does anyone know?

Thanks ladies! xx

I was under the consultant and it meant I had more appointments with him but less with the mw. I got scanned every time but although I started off under one because I was on anti-depressants when I got pregnant they ended up being worried about Jamie's size so I don't know if you will otherwise

So really I might just have a lot of blood tests and otherwise notice very little difference unless something crops up either in the bloods or at the scans / growth checks later on.

That's alright, as much as I like the idea of extra scans, it is a faff with work and Imogen and everything.

I think every circumstance is different. We have been under a consultant for both Lily and this pregnancy because of Aimee's heart problem and it just meant seeing him and being referred for extra heart scans at a different hospital.

When Lily was too big at our private 3D scan at 33 weeks we were referred to the consultant again where he saw me at 34 weeks and 36 weeks to check her growth. I had scans both times and I then saw him at 38 weeks for a sweep and was booked in for 39 weeks to be induced (although I didnt need it as I went in to labour after the sweep) x

I'm under consultant care again this time, with Lucas was because of fertility, high bmi and history of diabetes plus my age made me high risk. This time my bmi is lower but still classed as high so under consultant care again.

I saw him at 12 week scan, 28 weeks, 36 weeks plus scan because we thought breech. I saw mw as normal, I think it really depends on your circumstances, but from what I can tell it's more towards the end

Congratulations Hun, on the bfp that's wonderful news xx

Yeh I think its different depending on the reason, I was told I would be as I had OC, but I think it would have just been my blood monitored regularly rather than scans, but if its a baby/womb issue I suppose its extra scans too
