Im not into natural birth as it is, epidural all the way for me if I get there in time! What pain relief can you get at home? Is it just G&A or do MWs give pethidine at home?

Also do you have neighbours? Id be so embarrassed if my neighbours heard me groaning for hrs or screaming things when off my head on G&A

Also how far away are you from a hospital if you needed transfered? Im not going to my local MW led unit as im too worried about needing translated to a dif unit mid birth. Then there's the pressure it puts on one MW, being on call, making decisions on their own. A work collegues's friend is a MW in a rural area and she hates being on call for homebirths. She gets quite anxious and sometimes thinks its not the best thing for some women but has to go along with it.

Um could I have been more negative there? Sorry! Each to their own. Its just something I would NEVER consider. Im too much of a wimp when it comes to pain relief, worry too much about baby/me needing medical help...

I can see the advantages eg perhaps you would feel more relaxed at home (I wouldnt), everything you need is there (but maybe not everything MW needs), you can be snuggled up in your own bed with baby straight after birth... Oh im sorry I just keep thinking about bad stuff! My heads not in the best place atm to give advice, the closer I get to due date the more I think about things I shouldnt. Totally up to you, hope I havent annoyed you xxx

i read somewhere that m/w can give pethadine at home
i am only 6 mile away from hospital but would still worry about something going wrong and needing to go in , if i didnt expect another back labour where the pain is immense i would like to do it at home with kids here but i think i would terrify them

I'm quite keen on the idea but Matt really isn't. I'm not sure if they would let me either having had a previous section, am going to chat to the mw about it on Monday. I've done a bit of research and it always seems that the stress for most women begins when they arrive at hospital, and the majority of home births are positive experiences. I also like the idea of having a dedicated midwife with me throughout my labour whereas in hospital you don't always get that and can be left alone for long periods of time. I'd say go for it xx

not 4 me thought about the idea with sophia bloody good job we didnt as had huge blood loss but like already said u only get gas n air at home will not give diamorphine or pethadone at home and just incase u or baby did need emergency help ur already in the right place

bt ppl do and it goes well and everything is fine but i would personally say no

I like the idea of it... but a) you cant have them over here anyway and b) like snoopy i'd be terrified of something going wrong and for the sake of my comfort after the birth and maybe being more relaxed during the birth i'd rather not risk it.

I had one with Isla, it was great. However, i think i was more anxious about the birth because of it. Everything went completely to plan though.

I could easily have had Izzy at home, and had I not been there cos of the OC I think I probably would have had her at home cos my contractions never got faster/strong until I was pushing If Id been at home I would never have realised I was so close!

People used to die more often in childbirth too - fact. Im really not the person to be talking about this. I cant imagine ever thinking it would be a nice idea *shudders* I just automatically jump to worst case scenario and think of all the problems that often dont get detected until close to or after delivery. Id never forgive myself if something happened and I was miles away from hospital.

I accept though im thinking of extreme circumstances, possibly because of things that have happened to people I know, and child birth isnt a horribe stressy thing like I seem to think it has to be.

Erm not quite how id describe it........

I wouldnt of been allowed after Libby's birth but would of loved to have had Dexter at home, my labour and delivery were pretty much perfect (bar 2nd degree tear). Thinking about it now though, it was quite nice to have a few hours after to recover slightly before being sent home, if I'd had him at home I would of probably felt like I had to straight in with the usual routine for Libby.

If you want to and there's no medical reason not to then go for it! xx

Couldnt have done with the pre ec with both girls so never gave it much thoght except when my MW said 'I do hope you aren't even considering a home birth are you???' lol but for me I think it would be the mess aspect. Im a bit anal retentive about stuff like that lol. I like the idea theres people around to do all that in hossie. Lol thats a bit rubbish i know but...

I am not a shouter in labour thank god so wouldnt be bothered about neighbours. I had two normal births/ labours last time and Jack was very quick. I have spoken to midwife and you get the same care and drugs you do at the midwife led unit where i had Jack. She also said that the first sign of a problem they'd get me to hosp. I only live 10 min drive away.
As for mess, they have a big pack that covers everything and deal with that quite quickly. I hate hospitals and love the idea of the boys coming straight in to see him after hes born.
midwife has circled it in my notes but i can decide for sure nearer the time.

I had my last son at home and it was the most amazing experience ever, ide highly reccomend it to anyone .After Alfie was born me and the husband snuggled down in bed with our newborn in the basket next to us, following morning he got up and cookeed me breakfast. these things you could never do with a hospital birth as your hubby is kicked out of an evening. With Alfie its a good job i had a planned home birth as ide of never made it the hospital, I was 1 day od and after 1hr of labour (totaly naturel)Alfie was born weighing a healthy 7lb2oz. Thought ide add tho that my husband & mother ended up delivering my son with the help of 999 operator on the end of the phone. The midwife got there just after, had i of atttempted to of left for the hospital ide never of made it As the labour was rearly quick. The thing that reasured me was that you have your own personal midwife with you all the way through, somthing you dont get in hospital. If any problems arrise then your taken to hospital via ambulence, any problems that do happen are usually picked up early on . Ide definatly do it again, ide never have a hospital birth given the choice xx

i have never really thought baout it. ive never been aloud to have one thou. been told eah time i have to give birth at hopsital,.,

plus i like the idea of medical people round you and i went throu a whole gas n air thing while in the bath giving birth to trent at the hospital so would be worried incase i ran out.. n i like all the mancines around me bleeping n what not haha. even thou i didnt get that with treent... they saw he was comming threw me on a bed next door n pop he came out!
