| How much does it cost to get a filling repaired privately vs NHS? My husband has toothache but there aren't any spaces available with any NHS dentists until january He just went to a private dentist this morning for a consultation and they quoted him £466 for a root filling and 2 composite molars (whatever they are!) Do you reckon that's a fair price? I have no idea what's normal as I was abroad for so long.. He wants to wait for an NHS appointment in January despite being in pain as he doesn't want to pay that much, but would doing it on the NHS be that much cheaper to make up for waiting for the appointment? (iykwim!) Any advice welcome! |

| he should be able to get an emergency appointment. Ring up your closest one explain he's not registered but is in a lot of pain and they should see him |

| Thankfully we're in an NHS dentist, I'm racking my brains trying to remember how much our fillings cost us, I'm sure it was £30ish? They weren't root fillings but I wouldnt of thought they would be anywhere near that much on NHS.
Bless him wanting to wait, I can understand it though - ts a huge amount of money isnt it. |

| We tried that Kell, they told us to go to Cambridge or Wisbeach which are both miles away from us - we don't have a car so it would be really difficult to get there. They can't do emergency Nhs stuff anywhere in our town He says it does hurt a bit but he's not in so much pain that he can't function, (yet) so he doesn't mind waiting too much. It's just the money he's worried about. |

| Suse, it's crazy isn't it! £30 sounds doable, the private dentist is quoting £90 for a composite molar (that's just a regular filling isn't it?) so NHS sounds like it's about a third of the price. I think the root canal is the most expensive as they're charging £243 for that.. so if that's 1/3 of the price too it shouldn't come to more than £200 altogether should it? Hmm.. might have to ring around the NHS dentists again!

| NHS dentists have a 3 tier charging system, it' should be £47 for a filling.
Have a look at this page, there will be a number to call if you can't find an NHS dentist on there and they'll try and find you one plus all the fees x

| Thanks Mandy, that's a big help! We're going to book him in with an NHS one close to us and just wait the extra few weeks for treatment then, as private is so flipping expensive! everyone! |
