Nappy rash _
PostSubject: Nappy rash   Nappy rash EmptyMon Dec 05, 2011 10:39 pm

Amelias had a sore bum for a couple of weeks now. THink its to do with her teething. We stopped putting sudocrem on it as it seemed to be making it worse. We putting metanium sp? on it atm. Changing her this morning and its now really sore. Bright red and blistered. It doesnt seem to be bothering her, shes happy as larry but it looks awful. Is there anything else i can do/buy? Shall I take her to the doctors for something stronger?

The best things to do are (IMO):

- keep the nappy off as long as possible, air is the best at healing it
- don't use baby wipes, instead wash in the shower, or with a soft cloth and dab dry with soft towel
- apply a very thin layer of metanium

I use bepanthen on Awen atm and it seems to be doing the job. Ive just got some cotton wool to use with water for a few days too. PLenty of bare bum time.

If you have any chamomile teabags too boil some water and dunk the teabag in then when the water cools keep it in a pot of spray bottle to put on your cotton wool. Lovely and soothing for them. I make a solution with a single drop of lavender oil/tea tree in a cupful that chamomile water and a small small amount of baby wash and oil. Gonna go back to it for a while for A as she seems prone to redness and C never got in the slightest sore when I used to use that on her. The spray bottle can be used straight onto the bum too if you are hurried but they do look AWFULLY surprised!

I agree with both of above.
Nappy free time and go sparingly with any creams you use too.

I also did what Lise said above with the camomile solution, we used it with reusable fleecy wipes.

Oliver only ever had nappy rash once with a toxic poo, and nappy free really helped that.

Yeah i used to use fleecy wipes. Nowadays Im way lazier lol. Cotton wool for me but as Awens more prone to soreness than C i may reconsider

Glad shes all better. The chamomile stuff has taken A down from a huge rash to a few spots in 24 hours but I do need to get a spray as I hate having it in tubs lol

lol you cruel bugger. Make sure its warm water. It does sound a bit evil but a squirt to the bum combined with spraying it on some cotton wool its the most effective thing Ive found yet to get it all off and the chamomile does leave the skin lovely and soft
