For those of you that sew, i was wondering whether you use a different needle, foot and/ or lubricant?! when sewing with oilcloth??? x x x

Ive not used oil cloth but Ive used waterproof fabric and its similar I think ... I use denim needles and a long stitch

Its ok if you are sewing right sides together as the sticky side isnt against the machine...but its a sod if you are top stitching or something ...if you don't have a special foot try putting tissue paper under the shiny/sticky side, helps it glide easier

The special foot to use is a walking foot...never tried one though

Thanks for the reply Lisa, v helpful. I have loads of sewing books, etc, but thought it would be easier/more helpful to ask on here. I have just bought a load of new needles, as bent my last one last night sewing through some thick material.

Think i will buy a cheap off cut and have a go... Ended up buying an oil cloth bag for my mum for Christmas, as the easy option, rather than just trying it.

Yeh always good to have a good needle stahs, I have sooooooooooooo many lol ... I always seem to break them when sewing over zips!
