i know i said on fb about his ear, but i just wanted to let others know about it. he had a pressure test to see if there was any fluid. the right ear came back fine, but the left one- the canal from the nose to the ear wasn't working as well as it should be. so now we have to see if he develops anymore infections, if he does he has to go back in feb for another check up, and to be put on a low dose of anti-biotics for a few months then if he is still getting infections, he will have to have a grommet fitted. anyway, do you think this could be affecting his speech?? i know all kids develop in their own time, but he literally doesn't say a word...other than da (in a very low voice lol) and di da- haven't a clue what that means and ma (also deep voice) if he's upset. that's it!! any advice?

| Arrh hun, it could affect his speech, but i know its common for toddlers to have ear infections. I always had them when i was a LO. He will catch up b4 you know it he will be having a convo with you.
Noah can say words but i wouldnt say his behind in his speech or he is advanced. Just average I think. I always think from 18months thats when they pick up the most words.

elijah really didn't say much (apart from cat for a couple of months and then he seemed to forget it) but in the past 6 weeks his speech has come on loads. from about 18 months he seems to be saying 2-3 new words a day its insane so i do think its early to be able to tell or to worry x

I wouldn't worry about his speech, I think it's nearer two when they really get the hang of it. Eoin says mum, dada, what's that and his favourite word 'no'.

Tyler has only started talking the past 3 months or so, so it could be connected but it might not be and you shouldn't worry about his speech for s while yet does he understand when you talk to him?

Personally I don't think it effecting his speech. He's only 16mth and on average they don't tend to start talking (coming out with words) till they are 2yr+. It's good that he's getting he ears seen too. I was always suffering with ear infections/glue ear as a youngster, to the point people thought I was really rude and ignoring them. I had grommets and it was the best thing I can understand your worry about his hearing and speech, and how it could cause a delay maybe but it's quite normal for his age not to be saying anything. At that age Oliver had only just mastered walking, never mind talking aswel. Honistly, try not to worry about it. Once he starts he'll never shut up

Does he copy what you say or try to? Jamie can only say about 6 words by himself but will often copy us (so for example meerkat on Wednesday but I wouldn't call it a word). I wouldn't worry anyway. I was worried because I thought Jamie wasn't saying much and the hv said at the most they expect mama, dada and one other word at his age (I know his a little younger) and that many don't say their first word for another few months so I'd say his still on track. Boys do tend to be slower than girls as well. If you are worried could you contact your hv so she can put your mind at rest
