Dexter's left eye was watery literally as soon as he was born, we questioned it and the midwife just told us to bathe it in cool boiled water, which we did.

When the HV came around it was still watery, was told the very same thing which we were still doing, at his injections kept asking about it, I got him weighed a few weeks ago and was told the exact same thing.

Well it's still doing it and yesterday started to look red and sore in the outside corner (iykwim) so I decided to take him to the doctors and finally get an answer. The doctor told me that he has a blocked tear duct and because he has a cold he now has an infection (conjunctivitis) which is why its watery/sticky so prescribed eye drops and anti b's. I didnt accept that and said that he has has it since birth and surely it should of corrected itself by now, he has said to give him til march and if it's still the same then go back and they will refer him.

I'm peeved really as hes had to put up with this for nearly 9 months now, and it does irritate him - when he wakes up in the morning his eye is caked in it Sad

Has anyone else's LO had this before?

Poor Dexter, that sounds so irritating for him Sad Milo had a similar thing, as soon as he was born he had a sticky runny eye, and the midwives gave him eyedrops straight away (i think he had them a couple of times a day, if not a bit more maybe?) and we carried on with that for the first 2 or so weeks we were home, so he had eyedrops for about 3 weeks altogether. That cleared it up and he had no problems since. 8 months is a long time for them to keep fobbing you off about it, I would be as angry as you are! I guess all you can do is keep hassling them for answers, I hope someone sorts it out for him soon!

I know Mari!! Its gone soooooo quick, I'm back to work on 3rd January Sad

Ah thanks Kat, it has really annoyed me that they've fobbed me off - every single health care professional has done it though including his consultant for his reflux. I looked online and nearly every site said it should clear within the first few weeks, if not he may need a small proceedure to correct the tear duct - why no one has flagged this I've no idea!

Well I'm off to get his prescription this afternoon so hoping his eye will at least feel a bit better but I know for sure its not going to 'fix' it properly.

Sorry hon ive only jyst seen this. Its quite commn in kids for the tear duct to block as they are so small and the channel is so thin. It should sort itself out by a year as thats when you would usually expect it to be broad enough to accomodate the build up you get. If not id get him back then but i would doubt they would do much before then tbh.
