Jamie's started pinching. Its only when you hold him so I'm not worried about him doing it to the other kids. However, I'm not sure he realises his doing it because his just trying to grab you. We say no and stop him when he does it but I'm not sure he knows what we're saying no to. Is this something they all go through and is this likely to stop

Ouch! Hannah used to do this too and it was agony sometimes - for some reason she always managed to pinch my nipples Shocked

It was just a phase though hun don't worry, just keep doing what you're doing and say "ouch that hurts mummy" with a sad face and he will learn not to grab so hard.

xx

LOL I've been doing that for 7 months with biting when feeding and it just makes him laugh. I think I may have an evil child.

Thanks though. Glad its not just Jamie. Will keep just telling him

Milo went through a stage of this at about the same age, sometimes i don't think he realised he was doing it, other times he was angry and was deliberately doing it, if I reacted (nicely or firmly) he got worse, in the end the only thing that worked was just removing his fingers, turning away from him/changing the subject/distracting him. But he's really sensitive so if Jamie's not really sensitive maybe just removing his fingers and turning away will be enough and he'll get bored of you not reacting?

it does stop eventually! Smile) Although Milo does still do it if he's angry with me, little tinker.

ooooooooooh i HATE pinching. elijah went through a phase where he would grab your neck/throat if he didn't want to be picked up and pull/twist in a very sore pinch (in fact the only thing i hate more is spitting...ugh).

he would only do it in anger (normally if i was already removing him from something he hadn't stopped after his warning etc) so i would say 'NO' very firmly, remove his fingers, put him down, turn my back to him and do something else - just for a minute or two but not even look at him...it did stop really quite quickly as the one thing he didn't want was to be ignored. after that we would have a cuddle and i would say 'mummy finds it really sore when you do that and it makes her sad, but she still loves you'. then it was totally forgotten about.

Lol he's not evil just unable to understand empathy at this stage but you will soon start to see the early stages of empathy developing so carry on telling him it hurts with over exagerated sad face and he will get it. Defo not just Jamie though hun - I think most go through a pinching/grabbing stage.

Mari I'm the same with spitting! I'm lucky neither of mine have ever really done it (yet) but it is one thing that I simply will not tolerate, I despise seeing people spitting in the street it's just rank, unhygienic and uneccessary No

its vile isn't it...

yeah as soon as jamie is able to say/communicate that something is sore, you can use the same expression/word/noise as he does to communicate it back to him Smile
