I think it's ok if you've had them already it's if you've not had them... but then you can get shingles can't you?

what a rubbish answer lol I'm not sure :/

You should be fine. Its only a problem if you've not had them and are in early stages of preg. Immi got chicken pox when i was 8wks and i've never had them so i had to go for blood tests but turns out im naturally immune or something. Don't worry about it. I hope Riley is ok xx

You should be fine as you've had them before.

I think the most dangerous time to get them is a few days before baby is born, something about them being born without developing your immunity and then catching it themselves when they a couple of days old - neonatal chicken pox or something its called.

I just thought I'd be really nerdy and point out that you can't catch shingles from someone who has chicken pox. They're completely different. Shingles can be activated by times of stress / feeling run down etc. So sometimes very vulnerable people such a the elderly, immunosupressed, possibly pregnant but unlikely, and if you're feling run down or rubbish already then you can develop shingles from being exposed to CP because your antibodies have to fight it and it puts added pressure on your system.

So my advice would be to take it easy, as I'm sure is a complete impossibility with a 3yr old, but do your best, just make sure you don't do anything daft like completely overdoing it, visiting a flu ward, walking barefoot in the rain etc.

(And by the way, getting cold doesn't make you catch a cold, it just
makes you Vulnerable to the germs that were already there - one of my
most loathed myths!).

Anyway, I hope he's not too poorly with it because it can be horrid. My sister works in a pharmacy and recommends (if you can get it) aqueous cream with calomine in it as this is moisturising whereas the calomine lotion can dry the spots out and make them itch more.

xx Em

There was an outbreak of chickenpox at Aimee's pre school before Xmas when I was pregnant with Holly.

I spoke to my midwife about it and she said that I should be fine as long as I had it as a child.

I am sure that if you are not 100% sure you are protected there is a blood test you can get done at the doctors.

thanx everyone, Riley isn't too bad he's got the spots but not been bad in himself he's still eating and drinking well, 2 days before the spots came he was crying when i took him to school so wondering if he felt unwell then i just thought he was trying to get out of going, yet he was ok when at home so maybe not i dont know, but anyway been putting eurax cream on which my mum got for him and its made the spots start blistering and looks like some r drying up so will hopefully be ok in a couple of days although more keep appearing, he does keep trying to scratch too, but he has no nails to bless him i just hope they hurry up and scab up and go xx

You should be fine. On the whole if you had them then you you're immune. Not always the case as one of my sisters had them twice and the other three times but generally so. You've midwife should be able to test your immunity anyway. Also, I think its only right at the start and end its a problem
