Hi

As Robert was having a bath i noticed some small spots on his back there were 2 that were quite red, i was just wondering what chicken pox usually looks like when it starts and if it usually starts in a certain place also are there any other symtoms other than the spots?

Thanks

Hi laura

in my experience they're usually a miserable for few days prior and the odd few spots on back and tummy which then multiply and spread other parts of the body (and I mean everywhere). The spots are quite deep pink with little blistery heads on. Hope Robert is ok!

xx

Well Robert has yet another cold for the past week but has been ok in himself apart from being clingy but he has been like that for the last 2 weeks or so, so i just think its a stage rather than a symptom. If it is i'm worried as we were at a party this afternoon with my friend and my friend is 14 weeks pregnant and her friend is 23 weeks pregnant.

Maybe it is chickenpox.

I really don't know what the risks are topregnant ladies or what the incubation period is.

I'd try not to worry.

If it is chicken pox poor Robert will be a lot more spotty by the morning. Sad

The incubation period is about 10 - 20 days (Wil took almost 3 weeks to develop spots from when he was first exposed to chicken pox).

If it is chicken pox let your pregnant friends know but providing they have had chicken pox themselves they have nothing to worry about as they will be immune. If they haven't had it they are best to check with their GP as I think there is a vaccine they can be given to protect them.

If Robert has got chicken pox at least he will get it over with and in a few weeks you will be able to cross it off the list of things you have to deal with in life.

I just gave Wil regular calpol and anti-histamine (from docs) to help him with the itchiness. He was also coated in calamine lotion and only dressed in babygros for the duration so his clothes didn't rub the spots.

Thanks for the advice, it would seem i was worrying for nothing though as the spots were hardly there this morning so i think maybe it was a sweat rash

It could still be that hun. Lottie was miserable for a couple of days before, andshe threw up once. She came hom from nursery and when she was in the bath we noticed the spots, then the next morning she was COVERED!!

Abbie was the same and was miserble etc, then seemed to get some spots, then they went and then came back again, this went on for a few days then TA DA she was covered. They are usually quite bigish spots, though everyone is different
