| My dads current car is a 56 reg Shogun, top spec one with the triptonic (s?) gear box - its lush to drive BUT serious monster on the fuel!
Its great for pulling, takes my mums horse trailer with 2 big horses, and the caravan, so its good if thats what you want. Its now 5? years old and they've never had a problem with it, they just have the normal yearly service etc
Before that they had an S/98? reg one which was just as reliable-still was a guzzler though!
I think the current one is 2.8 diesel, old one probably similar engine
My mum has a Peugeot 807 MPV for day to day - its bigger for people/space and is really nice to drive and much more economical on the fuel...I would prefer an MPV over a 4*4 any day as a family car.
Personally I would never buy a big 4*4 for a family car unless you are prepared for a lot of fuel costs cos the little trips absolutely cane it - also tyres on them cost a absolute fortune..oh and not to mention the road tax is scary!
That's assuming its a diesel beast though ( i think you can get the petrol versions, which I guess are for the non pulling type?)...but they are big heavy cars regardless of fuel type, so I bet both arent exactly pocket friendly. |

| I have a Meriva and I love it. HUGE boot so room for double buggy plus shopping/change bags. Easily fits the 2 big car seats we have atm and im sure you could fit one of the small booster seats in middle for Jaiden. Dont think it would fit 3 stage 1-3 car seats in a row mind, though I suppose how many 5 seat cars do?
It costs me £50 to fill and I get about 250miles out of that - but I only do 3-4 mile journeys mainly round town with loads of stopping and starting so you could prob get more out of it than that. |

there will ALWAYS be some wiseguy who tells you to avoid french/german/audi/ford cos THEY had a bad experience and dont like them ... try not to listen to what people think cos its usually not very accurate as an overall manufacturer evaluation! |

| Agree Lisa. When researching before buying my Meriva the family mechanic told me to avoid citreon and peugeots and I did take his advice... then realised I was getting rid of my 9 yr old peugeot 106 that ran like a dream, id left out in the snow for weeks on end and always started 1st time much to my neighbours surprise. My SIL though had a 206 and things were always going wrong. Suppose its just luck at the end of the day! |
