D seen the speech therapist several times then we took part in a 6 week course where we were guaranteed to see a huge improvement in her speech ( LMFAO ) and now we are to call in april and make an appointment with our speech therapist to see where to go from there ,,,,,,,,, I have come to the conclusion i don't need a speech therapist to teach my daughter how to talk bearing in mind we tried everything we could think of and did all exercises speech therapy gave us , followed their schedule completely but i say they were all a waste of time !!! Before i go any further i will say my tv is on all day near in my house and most time it is children's progs but she does not spend all day watching it , she spends too much time playing and running about and dancing. so ,,,, this morning we woke up and i really didn't want to get out of bed so we put on the tweenies for 15 mins and snuggled , the dvd is a Christmas one live at the Albert hall so lots and lots of songs and dances , we sat up and did all the actions and she was actually saying some of the words we wondered where she learned " Hello boy " she kept saying it to neighbours dog and a guide dog we seen in tescos , turns out that was from tweenies too ! Came downstairs got her breakfast down her and -put on mickey mouse so i could do the dishes in peace and i listened to her copying words ,red yellow , blue , lets go ,choo choo and several more . We sat for ages every day trying to to teach her words using blocks and naming colours and nothing ! Tangled ! she has copied a few words from this along with all the actions she loves it I dare say mickey and tangled are on in my living room daily so even playing happyland stuff she is picking up the words and i think she has the most amazing memory in the world she truly does retain some amount of stuff So while i know many ppl disagree with TV i say PPPFTTTTT , from a family that were worried sick over our daughters speech the Tv has brought her on in leaps and bounds and i couldn't be happier about it !

My son is almost 3 and is severly behind with his speech, but the other day he kept saying to me 'hang on a minute' and 'amazing' was really pleased but a bit confused , took me ages to realise he was copying it from justins house ! in the last couple weeks he has picked loads up and its all from the telly, he only watches beebies so its only good stuff he's going to learn, I think its brilliant and hate when people moan about kids watching telly because its been more effective for us than any other thing i tried x

I do agree a lot of toddlers can pick up lots of words or sounds from the TV. But on the OH Noah still doesnt watch cartoons, he sits and watches kids films that are animated more. I do put them on of a morning still nothing he would rather go and explore in my cupboards or fridge or play with the dog lol. He does say words and a few sentences still, i think his probably average on his speech. But that is good maybe she wanted to do it in her own time Char

I always said as soon as we switched from cbeebies to cbbc Imogen's speech massively improved. I think it was because she was actually paying attention rather than it just being background tv. Now she watches the disney films, her speech is really coming on. She really shocks me with the sentences she comes out with now.
