I'm making Tylers 1st birthday cake into a No.1 shape (which I think I can do )

And planning to cover it with fondant or royal icing.

Obv that's gonna be really plain and boring so I thought about painting or decoartion a winnie the pooh picture on it and some baloons.

Can I just use watered down food colouring to paint straight on to the icing or is it better to colour some icing and pipe it on?

Im hoping i can just paint it on with normal food colouring.

Secondly... I'm in Cyprus and it's really hard to find any decent cakey stuff so Im quite limited in what I can buy...

So what have you got planned for Tylers bday and party? Have you got his pressies ?

on his actual bday tuesday ive got the day off work and am either taking him to the zoo up the road or to the beach or to the water park (if its too hot for walking round zoo then prob water park)

and we're having a BBQ on 10th October (my mums away until then) for his party.

haha I bought his pressies ages ago they're waiting to be wrapped up... got him a smart trike, trampoline and a sand and water table and some other little bits and pieces, can't wait to give him his pressies but I know he'll get more fun out of the wrapping paper than the pressies themselves lol.

Hiya, I would personally cover it in fondant and then pipe on the picture with royal icing, water based colour tends to run and once you've put it on, you can't get it off. The way I do my pictures is as a run out, so I would put the picture I wanted to copy under some wax paper on a chopping board and trace over the outside lines with a thick consistency royal icing, then fill in the middle bits with a runnier royal icing, let it dry for 48 hours then carefully peel it off the paper and put it on the cake. If you're a better artist then me, you could draw it freehand directly onto the cake x

is royal icing easy to make because I dont think they sell it here?

If not Ive actually found somewhere that sells coloured regal icing so I might cut the shape out of that *eek*
