so we started using new liners that got sent with some new nappies yesterday and Elijah has come out in the most awful nappy rash - we have both bepanthen and sudocrem - any ideas which would be better???

we are just going to use a reusable nappy tonight rather than a disposable and I will change it every couple of hours...any other advice? It looks terrible and it's obviously really sore for him

I can't think it is anything but the liners as that's the only change and he's never had this before.

Metanium is the best cream ive used for nappy rash - poor babba x

but it's 10pm and we only have bepanthen and sudocrem!

Im a pharmacy tech, and theres not a great difference between that an metanium...........but a huge difference from sudocrem!

A few hrs with bepanthen will make a huge difference

The best thing for rash is air!

Wash with plain water and dab dry then air as long as possible

What liners were they? Did you wash them well before using them?

he's been a nakey bum since about half 9, we have some disposable changing mats kicking about so he is having fun 'air drying' we also washed him really gently with warm water and cotton wool (don't even use wipes so can't be that!) and then put some bepanthen on and air dried...

lisa, they are flushables from a 'pop-in' nappy we got with some cheap v3s from closeparent.com - apparently they are plant pulp - not 100% sure it's that that's done it but his bum looked a bit sore yesterday night for the 1st time ever (1st day using them) and today it looks absolutely awful so...we haven't done anything different at all unless it's teething issues I feel terrible for him.

I can't help much as Izzy rarely gets red, and when she does its just from her teething poo and has gone by the next nappy change

When she has had bad nappy rash though its been right round her bottie hole and her front bum creases where you'd expect the poo/wee to kinda get warm I suppose and cause the rash - so if the rash is more general like on his bum cheeks I would say its more likely to be the liner

Izzy cant even wear disposables without going red, MIL put one last week and commented her bum was red the next change, and I used 2 last week and she was red again, reckon if I used them all day she'd have got a rash. I think cloth bums are not used to the clammy conditions of sposies, or something anyway

yeah, we use disposables at night normally (although tonight we put a newborn insert with a normal one and I will get up in a couple of hours and change it again) and although he's teething a bit it's nothing like last week so...the only thing is the liners.

I had a sniff of them and they smell fragranced to me??! I can't believe I didn't check the rash is all over his bum and bits and is shiny and he was crying when he was weeing seems to have settled now though, so hopefully with lots of air time and cloth it will be ok.....boo

Sounds awful, hope he gets better soon! I can't really offer any advice, Seb gets a rash sometimes but due to teething, we haven't noticed a difference between reusables (with M'care flushable liners) and disposables (we use Pampers at night and Sainsbury's Eco during the day but nursery have some other brand).

However on the odd occasion when he is really sore he tries to have a bath with his bum in the air, so it must be painful... Nothing too bad though as Sudocrem has always worked for us.

well if anyones interested (haha!) it is looking a bit better, he went off to bed about 1am after lots of nakey bum time and we changed him a few times in the night and put bepanthen on. Although it says not to we used his cloth nappies with no liners (disposables make his bum sweaty!) and it looks quite a bit 'drier' today...more nakey bums this morning though I think

glad its a bit better today. I try and give Cerys as much nakey bum time as poss x
