First topic message reminder :

is it hypocrytical to get your child christened if you don't follow a religion or intend to bring your child up as a christian?

Yes i think it is too Neither of mine have been christened they can decide to follow a religion when they are old enuf if they want to I was brought up RC too but not married and having 2 beautiful babies have not lived as RC for many many years now I think 6 or so LOL and im sure its just coz my mum is Irish that we were!!!

As said many times morals and good faith comes from surroundings not force feed religious rubbish

What about a naming ceremony or something like that XX

I have no right to impose any label, religious, or otherwise on any other human being, and that includes Wil, regardless of what I believe. If Wil chooses to follow a religion that is his choice to make when he is ready. As for doing something because people 'expect it' I say 'bollocks' to them. See my disclaimer.

Im having C christened but then we attend church (though without daddy who is a complete atheist) as often as i can allow it. I also celebrate christmas but often also attend midnight mass on the 24th and will be teaching caelyn the reason behind christmas. Im not going to impose religion on her because i actually dont believe in imposing beliefs on another so if she decides she doesnt want to attend church when older or follow a different faith etc thats fine by me, i attend a christian church but actually think other religion has a lot to offer even a way more devout christian than me. I actually dont totally agree with the entire doctrine of the church anyway though i agree with its morals and the 'tenets' of being a christian. I do however think its hypocritical to have a christening if you have no christian affiliation whatsoever, there are lovely humanist ceremonies out there that actually offer way more self expression than im gonna get with a church ceremony so why stand there all awkward in your sunday best in a place you have no belief in saying things you have no intention on following through on, before i get shot down this IS for the people who do it to appease family or cos its the 'done thing'
