Poorly bean - Diarrhea :o( _
PostSubject: Poorly bean - Diarrhea :o(   Poorly bean - Diarrhea :o( EmptyTue Sep 28, 2010 11:56 pm

Bean has had diarrhea now for about 36 hours. Very upset at night, awful nappies (in the night too Sad ) and generally out of sorts. I've got sickness so I think we've shared the bug!

What should we avoid / give in terms of food and drink? He didn't want much breakfast but has just done well with some lunch - and he's drinking plenty.

Asked chemist (stocked up on calpol and ashtons&parsons powders) who said see gp Rolling Eyes Our gp is useless but we might need to try it tomorrow if no change.

And ideas / experience appreciated! x

When babies have bad bellys GP's tend to say to do the BRAT diet, which is keeping them on a diet of:

Bananas
Rice
Applesauce
Toast

It should settle his tummy down in no time xx

i agree with Laura, keep away from dairy as that will just agravate it and keep flushing hrough with fluids.

Hope you are both ok soon Grace.

How are you feeling today? are you shaking yours off, when i was 15 weeks i had an awful bug that took over a week to shake off, i ended up on anti sickness tabs as i was struggling with fluids.

Oh poor love! Fluids, fluids and more fluids. We had this a few months ago and I asked on the other forum what was good to bind them. I think it may have been mummajade who told me about BRAT, banana, rice, apple and toast. The apples need to be cooked though as the process releases pectin which is what binds. Dioralyte is availble from chemists, this contains rehydration salts and sugars. You can take it too!

Hope you all get better soon x x x

Thanks ladies - tried rice for dinner which made him sick - but then he's always been particular with textures scratch Bought diaoralyte and he's not a fan - had some great faces! Put a spot of cordial in, diluted it more... still knew what I was up to! Razz
He's never been keen on banana (the flavour of it I think) but will try in the morning. Although he will always eat toast he's just been chewing a piece or two then leaving them Sad So in the quest to see if he would at least have something in his tummy this evening I tried just plain cereal which he ate about 1/3 of.

Bean is perkier in himself this evening after a very upset and sleepy day, currently happy with igglepiggle. Just about to try him with the cooked apple made earlier.

I've not been sick again today (thank goodness) but haven't been able to stomach much either - just some bread and some 1/4 cups of tea. It's a start though. Just worried that bean seems worse today than yesterday Sad really really hoping we have a better night. At least he hasn't got a raging temperature or bad vomiting, that's something at least!

Thanks again x
