Pet allergy _
PostSubject: Pet allergy    Pet allergy EmptyFri Oct 01, 2010 6:52 am

Hannah suffers with a really sticky right eye, it seems to flare up all of a sudden and I have been to the drs a million times and keep getting told the same thing that its just a blocked duct and that it will sort itself out. I have had 2 different types of creams/eye ointment thingys and they dont seem to do much, it does clear up for a bit but then comes straight back or doesnt even touch it sometimes. I got told at one point I was maybe bathing it too much and irritating it more so calmed on bathing it so much which does seem to have helped but im starting to wonder if she is allergic to dogs or something as it flares up all of a sudden with no warning, I did think it was my mums 2 (black labs) but she seems to still have had a flare up this week and she has not been my mums this week, but we have been to a friends who has cats??? We have cats but they live outdoors. Her eye gets a really runny gunkyness that gathers in the corner and is always worse in the morning, and causes her to get a red sore underneath her eye sometimes I think from the weeping (which is pretty constant when its bad) I will take a pic tomorrow and post it if its still bad. I just wondered if anyone elses little ones had anything like this? I feel a bit helpless for her as even though it doesnt seem to bother her she is that chilled back I dont think she would moan even if it did.

Thanks for any replies (if you can make any sense Laughing )

xx

Cerys had a blocked tear duct when she was born. It did sort itself out and disappeared when she was about 9 months. Same thing, watery eye, crusty in the morning. The doctor gave me drops Fucithalmic (antibiotic) and they really helped x

I'm not too clued up on it tbh, but usually if its a blocked duct it tends to sort itself out by the time they are 1yr. How long has she been suffering with it?

I know my nephew had a cat allergy and his eyes got really puffy and red, but not so much gunky.

Could you not ask the doc to maybe refer her to ENT if it keeps reoccurring.

I must of been about 3 times in the last 2 months about it (she has had it since birth) and is 14 months now so I would of thought if it was a duct it would be sorted by now, I will have to book another appointment and see what they say. We had Fucithalmic acid last and Hannah had a really bad reaction to it (we were given this when she was a baby and was ok hence why they gave it again) but this time it made her eye swell up nearly shutting it and she had this weird rash down her face so she had a reaction to it and we stopped using it straight away.
I just feel like my drs arent listening and hubby doesnt want to go down any surgery route (which was suggested at one point if her duct doesnt clear on its own - if thats what it is)
