PostSubject: Help me :-(   Help me :-( EmptyWed Sep 29, 2010 6:39 am

Connie went into her big girl bed last Sunday.

Went really well and for a week she's been going to bed no probs, no fuss happy enough. She fell out of bed on Fri night, but in her sleep - she hada little grumble but nothing major and again went to bed on Saturday night without any fuss.

Then on Sunday night, she went insane putting her to bed, screaming the place down - i couldn't make it to the door before she was out and screaming beside me. I eventually got her to sleep by cramming myself into her teeny tiny toddler bed and lying until she fell asleep (I tried to get up 5/6 times but she woke screaming her head off).

Last night, same thing. I tried lying beside her but everytime I tried to move she went insane. If I actually get out of her bedroom - she can open the door! Eventually at 10pm last night she was asleep, only for us to do the same thing all over again when she woke at 3am until 5am.

Tonight, I tried putting a bed side thing on that we had. But she stood up and fell right over it Sad I am honstly being driven slowly insane. I've put her into her travel cot tonight, where she again screamed her head off but after about 25 mins it's all gone quiet.

I feel like I've been defeated pale I refused to give in and put he into her travel cot when we started - I was so determined. But I have get up for work at 6am I literally cannot be awake all night again. As I've mentioned I'm on my own here - so I've no one to help me out.

Part of me also thinks that - it isn't exactly the BED that's the prob. More that she just doesn't want to go to bed FULLSTOP. Should I just keep her in the travel cot until she's happy going to bed again then give it another try?

Thanks

JOxxx

I would perhaps wait a few night see if she is sleeping fine in cot then try again. Maybe try the gradual retreat method?

Aww, hun. What Laura said sounds like a good idea.

When Oliver went into his big bed, he was fine for so many nights then it all seemed to kick off too, he was literally heart broken when we put him to bed.

We did the gradual retreat method. Basically, start of by laying next to her so she's calm.. next step whilst she's still awake but relaxed sit up on the edge of the bed but make sure there is no eye contact..then gradually move to the floor and shifty out the room as she's drifting off, but sit outside for a little while. It is important not to make eye contact though, sometimes its just enough to know you are there with them. It think it starts off all new and exciting but then the insecurities set in. If she makes it through the night make a huge fuss in the morning.

If you have work, you might want to retreat back to the travel cot until the weekend or something. If she senses that your getting stressed, it will make her feel uneasy too.

She'll get there in the end, but don't worry about reverting back to the travel cot for a wee while. xxx

Thanks girls, I think I might just leave her in the travel cot until she settles back down and goes to bed happily in that again. Even when I put her into travel cot tonight she still went mental - so I'm just confused by the whole thing at the minute. She was getting on so well Crying or Very sad

I would put her back in the travel cot and leave the bed in the room with her, put her toys and bears on the bed and get her used to it first, let her sit on it and play on it, maybe give her a bedtime bottle and read her a story on it then put her in her cot. Then in a couple of weeks time she might be ready

We did with this with Chloe and after a couple of weeks she was crying if we took her away from the bed and put her in the cot so we made the move then and it's been really easy, no tears or tantrums, she sleeps brilliantly in it now
